K-Pop Beyond The Charts: Vibe To The Irresistible Groove Of History's 'Mind Game' From Their New EP 'Beyond The History' [AUDIO]

K-Pop Beyond The Charts is a weekly review column highlighting Korea's modern day musical innovators who have yet to find mainstream success.

Though they are barely two years old as a group, the five-member boy band History has already shown a profound ability to create music that makes you want to move and creates a visceral reaction from the listener easily lapping most so-called dance bands.

Though not every song the band has released in their brief, um, history has been a winner, though when this group finds their sweet spot, they are as funky and original as any group in the South Korean pop scene.

Though it was not selected as a single for the band's new EP "Beyond The History," released on Thursday, on the album's opening track "Mind Game," History find that sweet spot, creating a unique dance groove that is making me want to get up and dance away from my computer right now, but back to the review.

One of the most striking things about this group is how difficult to pin down exactly what their sound is.

There are flashes of Justin Timberlake, Warren G or even Nelly's 2002 Grammy Award-winning hit "Hot In Herre," mixed in with acts more close to home for History, like EXO or BEAST. But they are just that, flashes. The overall sound is something different, and even more eclectic than the already-diverse tincture of pop, rap, funk, jazz and Broadway that K-pop is known for internationally.

"Mind Game" has you dancing before you can stop yourself, but once you are you will probably be struck by the fact that these are five singers and rappers that are carving out a new sound for themselves within an increasingly crowded genre.

Or maybe you'll be too busy dancing to notice.
