Temptations Singer Otis "Damon" Harris Died at Age 62

Otis Harris, best known to Temptations fans as Damon Harris died on February 18, 2013 at the age of 62. Harris had lost a 15 year battle with prostate cancer.

Damon Harris joined the vocal band The Tempataions in 1971 at the age of 21. He changed his name from Otis Harris to Damon Harris becasue the band's founding member Otis Williams already claimed his first name and told Harris if he wanted in he had to change it. 

Harris would leave The Temptations in 1975 but helped the band win 3 Grammys and gain 9 gold records. The Temptations hit songs included popular favorites like "My Girl," and "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone."

Damon Harris was first diagnosed with cancer at the age 47. It was then he became an out spoken advocate for those diagnosed with cancer. Espicially men. He urged men to go to their doctor and get checked regularly. Something he did not do himself. 

A spokensman for the Harris family, Chuck Woodson said "He did not want anyone to suffer the consequences that he suffered for not doing that."

Reuters reports Harris died in his native Baltimore at Joseph Richey Hospice. There is no word yet on when funeral services will be held.
