K-Pop Double Take is a weekly review column highlighting recent releases that have yet to receive the attention we feel they deserve.

Teen top fans expecting the group's signature high-energy, highly produced K-pop, might be a little thrown off by "Please."

The fourth song on the group's new album "Natural Born Teen Top," released on June 22, "Please" demonstrates the versatility of the band members, as each of the six members delivers a relaxed vocal performance over the soulful beat that is easily one of their best to date.

Composed by Teen Top members Niel, C.A.P, L.Joe along with songwriters Shin Seung Ik and Danis Seo, this song shows that there is more to this group than just the upbeat sound they are known for.

Sure, Teen Top's done ballads too, but "Please" falls into that sweet spot of danceable ballad or soothing dance song, take your pick of classifications, somewhere in the middle between fast and slow or loud and soft.

In the finicky world of South Korean pop, artists are often criticized or even abandoned for trying something new. Yet, in the case of Teen Top, their abilities are so versatile and their talent is so far beyond what much of their recorded output would imply, it would be a risk for them not to experiment with some new and different sounds.

Back in 2011 when Hallyu hitmaker Brave Brothers was asked by Korean newspaper Illgan Sports if he wished that any of the dozens of top K-pop acts he'd produced over the years were signed to his label. His answer, unequivocally, was Teen Top.

"I don't know how rigorously their [record label] trained these guys, but they definitely stand out to me," Brothers said. "If I tell them to do something, they will come back having completed so much more."

Four years later, this Teen Top fan is still waiting for this group to deliver on the depth of their potential. Though the more open sound of "Please," has to be a good sign.
