YG Entertainment Announces iKON's 3 Month-Long Debut Cycle

"Welcome Back," to a K-pop group that has yet to debut.

On September 7, YG Entertainment released the official release schedule for its highly anticipated male K-pop idol group, iKON. Mimicking a professional basketball season, the company released iKON's "Season Schedule."

iKON will release a "warm-up single" music video on September 15, followed by a half-debut album on Oct. 1 with six songs. A full, twelve-song album, will be released on Nov. 2.

YG Entertainment appears to be continuing the trend of multi-date releases for one album, which started to gain popularity following the company's multi-month release of Big Bang's recent "MADE" project album.

Other K-pop acts, including SM Entertainment's Girls' Generation, have also recently undergone longer album promotional cycles with their latest, "Lion Heart" album.

iKON's members picked and introduced to the Korean audience through two reality survival programs, 2013's "Who Is Next: Win," and 2014's "Mix & Match." Since then, members of iKON have been visible in a variety of media outlets, including magazines and music projects. Members B.I and Bobby also appeared on the third season of Mnet's "Show Me The Money," which Bobby won.

The promotional concept is similar to the promotional concept that YG Entertainment's previous new idol group, WINNER, used prior to debuting. While iKON is going for a sports-based theme, WINNER's concept takes inspiration from the fashion industry.

iKON is composed up of seven members (B.I, Kim Jinhwan, Song Yunhyeong, Koo Junhoe, Kim Donghyuk, Jung Chanwoo), and the group's official Facebook page describes their genre as a mix of hip-hop, pop, R&B, and K-Pop.
