As we previously reported, Saul (Mandy Patinkin) made some tough decisions in season 4, which will certainly impact his relationship with Carrie in "Homeland" season 5. Remember, Carrie was once so desperate to kill Haqqani that she nearly shot him in a crowded street in Pakistan in "Homeland" season 4. But at the end of season four, Saul seemed to align himself with Dar Adal (F. Murray Abraham) after making a deal (most likely in an effort to collect information) but suddenly found himself on the same side as Dar Adal's "ally" Haqqani (Numan Acar).

"[It's] difficult," Gansa teased to The Hollywood Reporter of where Saul and Carrie stand when season 5 premieres.

"They seem to have not spoken for a long time," executive producer Chip Johannessen added. "That may be for a good reason."

Let's hope that Carrie and Saul can put aside their differences. Let's face it - their relationship is one of the few drivers in "Homeland's" plot these days.

Speaking to TV Guide, showrunner Alex Gansa reveals that the problem for Carrie and Quinn, on the other hand, is bad timing in season 4 - she was ready to admit to feelings, but he was called away for a covert mission. In season 5, Carrie will be in a new relationship with a man named Jonas, but we're guessing that doesn't last.

"She has ... been released from a false worldview of herself. Her mother told her at the end of last season, 'Have a relationship! Your illness isn't keeping you from that.' So, we do find her in a very domestic arrangement with a guy, and that gives a whole different flavor to the season."

Tune in tonight, Sunday, Oct. 4 on Showtime at 9:00 PM ET to find out all the answers!
