Suzy Bae Receives $8,700 Settlement In Alleged Unauthorized Photo Case Against Online Shopping Mall

South Korean singer-actress Suzy (Suji) Bae finally won her case against an online shopping mall that used her name and face without permission.

Suzy, a member of JYP Entertainment's popular female group miss A, will be receiving 10 million KRW (approximately $8,715 USD) from an online shopping mall in settlement of the case, according to an agency rep on Oct. 9. The star will  as compensation for using her name and face without permission for advertising from 2011 to 2014, revealed one representative on Friday, Oct. 9.

The Seoul Central District Court summoned the online shopping mall and JYP Entertainment, with the two sides reaching a compensation agreement.

The e-commerce site agreed to pay the sum as compensation for using the 20-year-old star's name and face in advertisements without permission from 2011 to 2014.

In February 2015, Suzy lost a lawsuit against a shopping mall that advertised a particular style of hats as 'Suzy hats.' The Seoul Central Court sided with the vendor, and said there was not enough evidence to prove Suzy had suffered any damages as a result of copyright infrigement.

"There isn’t enough [evidence] to prove that as a result of the infringement of [Suzy’s] rights to her image and name she was unable to sign new contracts or had to terminate existing ones, and we are dismissing her claim for damages because there is no evidence that she incurred financial losses," revealed the court statement, as reported by Soompi.
