With the premiere of "Digimon Adventure Tri" starting with the film "Reunion," a new "ship" has ignited featuring two iconic DigiDestined characters.

Following the release of "Reunion," many fans took note of a burgeoning romance between Izzy and Mimi, particularly on Izzy's part. The storyline has been positively received by many Digimon fans.

"It's kind of funny," wrote reddit user QuantumSheep. "Izzy and Mimi were two of the most interesting/fun characters in ['Reunion'], characters who were usually in the shadow of the others in previous seasons."

Last week, a photo began circulating online-possibly from a cafe in Japan that is promoting "Digimon Adventure Tri"-showcasing the eight original DigiDestined and new character Meiko Mochidzuki. In addition, there is also a clear image of what is assumed to be the Rookie level of her Digimon.

But if fans take a closer look, the poster also shows Mimi and Izzy holding hands, possibly foreshadowing them becoming a full-fledged couple.

A new couple alert is not the only thing circulating the rumor mill for "Digimon Adventure Tri."

On Thursday, Siliconera scooped up a new Japanese scan for the upcoming video game "Digimon World: Next Order," set to release in 2016. Reportedly, the scan from Bandai Namco reveals a new Digimon codenamed the "Black Knight."

While nothing more definitive is known about this mysterious Digimon, the cross-over between "Next Order" and "Adventure Tri" is leading some to believe it will eventually make an appearance in the film series. The "Black Knight" looks similar in power and design as the Royal Knights that Alphamon belongs to, so additional appearances of this group may occur in future films.

According to Anime News Network, the second film of the "Digimon Adventure Tri" series, titled "Determination" will be released on March 12.
