Google Project Ara Update On Release Date and Specs: Revolutionary Device To Be Finally Launching This May?

The idea of Project Ara is to let users modify the device by replacing a specific "block" or blocks which could refer to a certain fragment like the camera or the processor.

In Project Ara's Official Website, an introductory remark is displayed noting how a user is left with the decision if he wants to modify his smartphone according to his prerogative.

"The smartphone is one of the most empowering and intimate objects in our lives. Yet most of us have little say in how the device is made, what it does, and how it looks. And 5 billion of us don't have one. What if you could make thoughtful choices about exactly what your phone does, and use it as a creative canvas to tell your own story?

Introducing Project Ara.

Designed exclusively for 6 billion people."

According to Softpedia, a recently leaked prototype sports several features which does not come as a surprise since Project Ara is a Google device. The report stated that the prototype tablet runs with the Android 6.0 operating system, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, a 3 GB RAM and an Adreno 430 graphics with 32 GB of internal memory.

In addition, DigitalTrends also noted the typical type of sensors you'd expect to exist in a phone-bluetooth, barometer, accelerometer and compass, among others.

Though announced under umbrella of Google, a previous YHM report claims that the device is not an official Google device but rather a development effort among several makers.

Since its announcement in 2013, there hasn't been any news updating the status of the project, until recently, the team themselves took to air on Twitter that they will be launching the device this year, International Business Times reported.

Further details on the development of Project Ara is expected to be revealed in Google's upcoming I/O event in May.
