It has been announced by YG Entertainment that they will not be attending this year's Mnet Asian Music Awards or MAMA.

YG Entertainments has declared that they will not be attending MAMA because of their groups' busy schedules. Most of YG Entertainment's artists will be coming back in December so they do not have time to prepare for a performance. Also, Big Bang will be having a concert in Japan that day so the boy group cannot attend.  

According to Soompi, a representative of YG Entertainment even explained that 'MAMA' opens online voting on December 1, and they don't know if there's the possibility of winning an award. However, if they do get invited, it's been decided that it would be impossible to prepare a performance for the award show. YG Entertainment backing out of MAMA is not caused by any conflict between the label and Mnet. The representative also said that "We hope there won't be any speculations or misunderstandings."

YG singers have many nominations for this year's MAMA. BLACKPINK is nominated for best new female singer and best music video. PSY is nominated for best male singer, Lee Hi is nominated for best female singer, and MOBB's "Hit Me" is nominated for best collaboration. BLACKPINK, iKON, PSY, and Lee Hi were all nominated for Artist of the Year. Finally, MOBB's "Hit Me" was nominated for Song of the Year.

The fans are upset as YG or Yang Hyun Suk, for them, is being petty again. A post on Netizen Buzz said that fans are upset to YG because they will not be seeing their favourite idol groups. Also, many of them thought that IOI will be getting the rookie award because it is kind of an open secret that YG only attends award shows if they will be getting an award. Blackpink, Akdong Musician, Lee Hi, Winner, Sech Kies and Big Bang will not be attending MAMA this year.

In the past years MAMA has always been full of YG groups. Even though the said group did not have a comeback, they performed in MAMA like last year with 2NE1. MAMA, will again, be held in Hong Kong on December 2 at AsiaWorld-Expo.
