Controversy: T-Ara And SISTAR Speak Out About Underage Working Hours

T-ara’s Jiyeon and SISTAR’s Hyorin are using their fame and notoriety to combat a major world wide issue, underage working laws. While doing a press conference for “Dream High 2”, the ladies introduced a new law called Special Underage Protection Act and expressed their interest in making sure it gets passed. They chose this time to piblicize their  intentions since “Dream High 2’s” Hush and Eden transfer schools as a result of this new law. Jiyeon and Hyorin are working towards making the fictional "Dream High 2" law into a Korean reality.

Special Underage Protection Act will ensure all underage idol singers spend no longer than 30 hours weekly traveling, performing in concerts, rehearsing, and anything else related to promoting and performing. When the young idol is taking part in celebrity events, they must end prior to 10 pm. In addition to limiting working hours, the underage idols must attend school with drop outs rendered ineligible to participate in any celebrity related happenings. Classes can last no less than 20 hours weekly. Japan has already implemented a similar law which limits the hours an underage person can work.

Jiyeon is a highschool student and is more than happy to publically express her desire to spend more time at school. Not everyone feels the same way though.  2AM’s Jinwoon is no fan of this proposal and publically spoke out against it stating “If the ‘special law’ does get enacted, we’ll inevitably have less freedom to promote. There are more lessons to be learned than you think from celebrity activities. I also debuted as a minor, but if you really want to, it’s very possible to simultaneously engage in activities while going to school.”
