Kim Heechul Unveils Melancholic Debut Solo Single, ‘Old Movie’

"I'm sorry. I hope you find someone better."

These were the opening words of the music video of Kim Heechul's debut solo single, "Old Movie," which was unveiled on April 23, Tuesday. The line - taken from a dialogue with his former flame (played by actress Park Yoo Na) in the MV - is a befitting prologue to the melancholia that unfolds throughout the song.

The digitally released track is a piercing rock ballad piece about saying goodbye to your someone special.

"Like an old man, like an old movie, more than a common ending/ You can grab my hands and leave me/ Even if you do no want to meet a better person, think about your life/ Do not forget me, do not make me sad," Heechul belts out in the vernacular in the song's chorus.

"Old Movie" is a collaborative effort between the 35-year-old K-pop icon and fellow Super Junior member Donghae.

The launch of the track and its MV came over a week prior to Heechul's fan meeting scheduled on May 4 and 5 at the K-Art Hall in Seoul. During the two-day event aptly titled, "Universal Star Kim Heechul's HEEtalk," the multi-hyphenate is expected to perform his newest musical offering.

Before his long-awaited debut solo single was unveiled, Heechul has showcased his gift of music through his works with and even outside Super Junior. The K-pop legends are known for the hits "Sorry Sorry," "Mr. Simple," and "Black Suit."

Not new to showing off his impressive vocal chops in balladic performances, he has also previously topped the Gaon Digital Chart with "Sweet Dream" - a duet with Buzz vocalist Min Kyung Hoon.

The two - alongside Kang Ho Dong, Lee Soo Geun, Kim Young Chul, Seo Jang Hoon, and Lee Sang Min - are hosts of the popular variety show, "Knowing Brothers."

Apart from "Old Movie," Heechul has also displayed his flair for songwriting in various tracks, which include his group's "Replay," Orange Caramel's "Shanghai Romance," and Defconn's "King Wang Zzang."

Heechul is considered as one of the most versatile artists of his generation. Besides singing and songwriting, he has also dabbled and made a name for himself in the world of variety shows. He is most notable for his hosting stints in "Weekly Idol," "Life Bar," and "A Style For You."
