A soldier's homecoming is a monumental occasion. For some, it means a reunion with family and friends they haven't seen in years. For others, it's a celebration of service and a well-needed vacation. And for many, it marks their retirement from the military. Naturally, a celebration is in order. How do you say Thank You to your soldier and make sure that their homecoming is as special as possible, though? Here are a few tips to make the occasion unforgettable.

Gather Friends and Family

While an intimate celebration can be nice, large parties can be fun too. Call up some of the soldier's old high school friends and family members they may not have seen for a while. Don't have an address book or access to their contacts? No worries. By using a people finder, you can easily gather important information to send out invites. When your soldier comes home, seeing a sea of friendly, familiar faces might be the perfect thing to bring a smile to his or her face. If you're worried about having food ready for a large group of people, turn it into a potluck-style event where everyone brings a dish. Less prep work, less cleanup.

Spice Things Up

For a more intimate moment, show your soldier what they've been missing. You don't have to go full Dita Von Teese, but buying some plus size lingerie to show off all of your curves is the perfect way to welcome a soldier home. It's sexy, it's simple, and it's an excellent way to show someone that the romance is still alive and well. It never hurts to pick out something that's fun to take off, either!

Relaxation Is Necessary

After a deployment, it's often difficult for soldiers to transition back into civilian life and the change won't happen overnight. Understand that a bit of decompression, rest, and relaxation are in order when they get home. Do your extra part to make sure chores aren't falling on your service member's plate and do your best to wrangle the kids. It can make all the difference for someone who probably hasn't had quiet, reflective moments for quite some time. They'll definitely thank you for it later.

Focus on the Small Things

Sometimes, celebrating a soldier's homecoming can be as simple as stocking the pantry and fridge with some of their favorite cravings. Ask them what you can have ready when they get home. Whether you're cooking their favorite meal, baking a patriotic cake, or simply grabbing a sixer of their favorite beer, these small favors don't go unnoticed. It's a great way to say "I love you" while still keeping things simple.

Get the Kids Involved

This is another easy idea that doesn't require too much work. Have the kids do something simple and special like making a "Welcome Home" card. Or, let them tap into their artistic sides and paint family pictures or do special drawings of your soldier. These are perfect for creating lasting memories that don't require you to break the bank. All you need are some art supplies, paper, and a corner of the house that you don't mind getting a little messy.

Deck Out the House

Putting up flags, banners, and signs are a great way to show your patriotic spirit as well as your gratitude for your soldier. It's a touching way to say thank you. If your soldier isn't much for big banners and decorations, keep the decor changes on the inside of your home. It's more subtle but still has an impact.

Whatever you do, put your heart into it and make sure that at the end of the day, it's all about your soldier. They've done an amazing service by joining the military and deserve to be celebrated.
