BLACKPINK's Jennie Reveals Her First Impression of The Members

In an interview with ELLE Magazine, the first BLACKPINK member to sign with YG Entertainment, Jennie, revealed her first impression of her fellow members.

Jennie mentions in the interview that she was the first member of the team to join the company as a trainee, so she "got to watch everybody come in." She was first introduced to K-pop while residing in New Zealand as a student, and though her mother planned to move her to the United States in Florida at the age of fourteen to continue her studies, her family supported her dream to pursue music and moved back to South Korea in 2010.

That same year, she auditioned for the company by singing Rihanna's "Take a Bow". Obviously, she passed!

The next trainee to join the company was Lisa, the agency's first non-Korean trainee at the time and now the company's first non-Korean idol. Lisa auditioned for the label in 2010 through the YG Global Auditions in Thailand. Though 4,000 applicants auditioned, Lisa was the only one to pass. She joined YG Entertainment in 2011, a year after Jennie.

When talking about her first impression of Lisa, Jennie complimented her visuals, saying she was a young, tall girl with a perfect body. Jennie then reveals how amazing of a dancer she was even back then. "She started dancing like a robot. She memorized everything in seconds!"

Lisa revealed that ever since she was young, her mother said she would dance and sing, pretending she was holding a microphone.

Jisoo joined the company soon after, auditioning for the company in 2011. Jennie recalls Jisoo as someone "eager to learn everything and catch up to everybody." Despite being the oldest member and joining later than the other members, Jisoo showed dedication to training, which Jennie said was very inspiring for her. "It was really motivating for me as well," she said.

The last trainee to join the team was Rosé. She auditioned for YG Entertainment in 2012 through the YG Global Auditions in Sydney after her father suggested she try out. She ranked first out of 700 applicants and in two months, she packed her bags to train in South Korea!

When talking about Rosé during their trainee days, Jennie said she "gave us the meaning of what music was supposed to do." Rosé also revealed during the interview that Jennie had helped her with the cultural differences, as Rosé was the only team member to have been born and raised in an English-speaking country. She also revealed that before moving to South Korea, she had never danced in her life.

It was not easy becoming BLACKPINK. The members of the global girl group each had to pass the auditions, move into a dorm, and train for four to six years, having to beat out other trainees with the same dream of debut. They had to have it all - visuals, skills, and charisma. Despite the harsh environment, the girls bonded and became friends.

"We all lived together since the beginning," Jennie revealed. "After our training time was over, we would go home together and order food, talk about how scary the trainers were, how the word was too much. And just like how kids at school become friends, we just got along. It was very easy - we did not really have to try."
