WJSN member Dayoung has surprised fans after revealing the real reason behind her year-long weight loss journey and how she slowly changed her lifestyle to improve her performance as an artist.
On MBC's "Radio Star," Dayoung shared that she currently weighs about 43kg (97 lbs). The studio reacted in surprise, especially since she had never been considered heavy to begin with. But she quickly made it clear that her transformation was not about looks.
Instead, Dayoung explained that her goal was tied to her long-term dream of becoming a stronger performer. She said she wanted to build better stamina for long stages, especially if she is performing for two or three hours at a time, Koreaboo reported.
"I lost about 1kg every month for a year," Dayoung said. "If I'm going to become a global pop star someday, would I really be able to perform for two or three hours with my current stamina? I thought I needed to make my body lighter. It's easier when dancing and also more comfortable when singing."
Her approach was slow and steady, taking about a year to lose around 12kg in total. Rather than extreme dieting, she focused on long-term habits that would help her stay active and consistent on stage.

Dayoung Opens Up on Strict Diet Mindset
Dayoung also opened up about the stars who inspired her growing up, naming Lee Hyori, Seo In Young, Jeon Hye Bin, and Stephanie as role models who shaped her idea of performance and stage presence.
In another broadcast appearance on KBS2's "Immortal Songs," she gave a more candid look at her diet mindset, which also caught attention online.
According to ChosunBiz, she explained her method in a simple and direct way, saying, "If you think 'this will make me gain weight' or 'this will be bad for my health,' you can just not eat those foods"
Her comment sparked discussion, with some fans focusing on how strict it sounded. But she clarified that her approach was not about starving herself, but about slowly adjusting eating habits over time.
"It's not about not eating at all but gradually changing your eating habits that matters," she added.
Fans have since responded positively to her honesty, saying her focus on stamina and discipline reflects the reality of idol life more than appearance pressure.
