SG Entertainment Welcomes New Trainee That Could Be First K-Pop Idol from Kazakhstan

SG Entertainment plans to launch an all-group group this year, and one of them might be from Central Asia.

On Nov. 10, the entertainment agency introduced their new trainee who might become part of their upcoming female act - and when that happens, she will be the very first Kazakhstani idol to enter the K-Pop industry.

SG Entertainment (Spark Gate Entertainment) is a recently built K-Pop label co-founded by Joon-Hae Woo and Thomas Sommer, both French entrepreneurs. Woo is a music producer and has worked in the European entertainment industry for 20 years. Meanwhile, Sommer is an international trade specialist and has an 8-year of experience in startups and ad-tech.

This agency combines the K-Pop system and French pedagogy to help artists create their own creative and original concepts. Joon-Hae Woo stated previously stated that they aim to create a new K-Pop trend by utilizing a European system that would heighten individuals' capabilities established on their creativity and human values.

SG Entertainment operates an academy in Hongdae wherein trainees get involved in various activities such as singing, dancing, modeling, acting, and even music composition. The company recently announced that they would be debuting a four-member girl band later this year, and one of them might be Aiganym - SG's new trainee.

While the trainees revealed by SG Entertainment before are all Korean, Aiganym is from Kazakhstan, a transcontinental and landlocked country generally situated in Central Asia. The label introduced Aignaym by uploading two photos on its official social media accounts with the caption:

"Please welcome our FIRST foreign trainee at SG Entertainment, Aiganym! It's been a long way for her to get here! Please support her with love."

Aiganym Zhalinova was born on November 18, 2000, and her name means 'lady of the moon' or 'as beautiful as the moon.' The entertainment agency described her as someone creative, bold, and determined to attain her goals. She loves to draw and design as well as watch television shows and learn other languages.

Technically, Aiganym is not the first K-Pop trainee from Kazakhstan. In 2011, Azamat Ashmakyn trained under SM Entertainment and was assumed to debut as an NCT member. He then departed from the agency in 2015 and went back to his country, where he became a pioneer of the first Q-Pop band called Ninety One. Q-Pop or Qazaq pop is a music genre in Kazakhstan that has influences from K-Pop.

A few idols lived in Central Asia, including TRCNG's Siwoo, who dwelled in Kyrgyzstan, and ONF's Wyatt, who resided in Kazakhstan. However, both artists are pure Korean.

Meanwhile, SG Entertainment currently has seven trainees: Yelin, Jiyeon, Jiyun, Chaeyeon, Yuri, Hanna, and Aiganym. Recently, they made a dance cover of CL's track "Lifted," and the video was uploaded on SG's official YouTube channel on Nov. 6.
