Korean ARMYs Plan to Boycott Big Hit's '2021 New Year's Eve Live' Concert

ARMYs from Korea will not be supporting the upcoming joint concert of Big Hit Entertainment's artists.

Big Hit Entertainment previously announced that they will be holding their very first online and offline concert - the 2021 New Year's Eve Live - and that it will feature artists from all of the agency's subsidiary labels such as Source Music, BE:LIFT Lab, and Pledis Entertainment.

On Tuesday, Nov. 12, the company shared more details regarding the offline concert, which includes seating, venue, and ticket prices. It was revealed that the said event will be held at KINTEXT Exhibition Center 1 in Goyang City, and the ticket rates start from 154,000 KRW ($138) to 275,000 KRW ($246), depending on the "package" that fans will choose.

Fans were excited about the forthcoming concert as they would see the artists of Big Hit labels in one place. However, many Korean fans were furious rather than excited after learning about the ticket prices.

Aside from the high range of ticket prices, the fans also complained about the venue, saying that it is not suitable for concerts since it is an "exhibition center." Some fans posted pictures of previous concerts that took place at KINTEX and pointed out that the audience will not be able to see the artists conveniently because of poor sightlines.

Due to dissatisfaction with the high ticket prices and venue, Korean fans of Big Hit's artists expressed anger toward the agency. In particular, Korean ARMYs are unhappy about it. Hence, just after the ticket prices were released, the BTS Gallery Fan Union started a petition to boycott the "2021 New Year's Eve Live" concert.

Korean ARMYs specified the reasons for the boycott. First, the upcoming concert would be the very first offline concert of BTS since the pandemic started. They stated that ARMYs have been waiting for the boy group's offline concert for a long time, but since the event will be a joint performance of Big Hit artists and not a solo concert of BTS, the group would only perform for a shorter time than usual.

The second reason Korean ARMYs stated is that Big Hit's concert looks like it is just for the sake of media play at this time. The fans also mentioned that they are yet to feel that all of the artists are under the same entertainment agency. In addition, they claimed that they are simply singers that have gathered under the concept of extending the business.

Furthermore, the petition was made since ARMYs in Korea are mad at the steep prices of tickets. Fans said that neither the tickets for BTS's nor other artists' concerts were rated as such. Plus, Big Hit didn't specify the total running time of the upcoming event and even the order of the idols' stages.

Lastly, BTS's fans in Korea plan to boycott the event because of the randomized ticketing. They stated that to get tickets is by a raffle and that only official fan club members get to join. Korean ARMYs even questioned the fact that Lee Hyun and Beom Joo have no official fan club, so how would their fans attend the concert.

Taking all of this into account, BTS Gallery Fan Union is against BTS taking part in Big Hit's "2021 New Year's Eve Live" concert on Dec. 31.
