The production team who's responsible for the music video for STAYC's debut single has released an apology statement after plagiarism accusation.

STAYC officially made its debut on Nov. 12 with its first single album titled "Star To A Young Culture," featuring its title track "SO BAD" and B-side song "Like This." The MV for "SO BAD" was also dropped the same day.

Upon the release of the video, netizens found the similarities between scenes of the MVs for STAYC's "So Bad" and American singer-songwriter Miley Cyrus's "Midnight Sky." Netizens pointed out that the rookie group's MV features plants, balloons, and disco balls with sparkles on the floor, which can also be seen in Miley's. Excluding the animals in "Midnight Sky" MV, both videos' overall motif and vibes are comparable.

Considering this, the production company Rigend Film has issued an official statement. The team mentioned, "Rigend Film was in charge of supervising this music video and was therefore fully responsible for planning, production, art, and every other aspect. As a result, we are ashamed and cannot hide our upset feelings regarding these plagiarism accusations."

The agency also stated that they don't intend to rationalize the scenes of "So Bad" MV as an homage. With that, they decided to use all of the props in the video after having a discussion with the director during the planning stage.

"We want to make it clear that there was no intention to plagiarize the scenes that were created due to the placements on set," they added. Rigend Film went on saying that many of the props that were used in the MV, including disco ball and confetti, are ones that the production company often utilize in various ways when producing music videos for artists. "However, we recognize and agree that the combination of these art props and the scenes that were created as a result are controversial," they said.

"We also want to apologize to fans and the public for confirming details regarding the art and visuals during the production stage without an appropriate search. We apologize," Rigend Film added.

The production company concluded their statement by saying that they aim to become Rigend Film that will work harder to produce creative video content that the fans and public would enjoy watching.

Meanwhile, STAYC's music video for their debut single "SO BAD" is has already reached 6 million views and is nearing 7 million. The rookie girl group has also shared the full choreography of the track the day after they released their single album. And on Nov. 14, STAYC dropped the performance video of the B-side track "Like This."

STAYC is the first girl group formed by High Up Entertainment, the company founded by producer duo Black Eyed Pilseung in 2017, in alliance with CJ E&M. The female act consists of six members, namely Sieun, Isa, J, Sumin, Seeun, and Yoon.
