SM Entertainment Confirms Girls' Generation Taeyeon's Solo Comeback

Girls' Generation's Taeyeon is gearing up for her upcoming solo comeback!

On Nov. 20, an exclusive media outlet report state that the K-Pop idol is making preparations for a comeback in Korea. After some time, SM Entertainment confirmed the report by saying, "Taeyeon is preparing a new album aimed to be released in December. Please look forward to it."

This marks Girls' Generation's Taeyeon's first solo comeback in Korea in approximately seven months since her digital single "Happy," which was released in May of this year. The new album is drawing attention as it arouses curiosity on what kind of music Taeyeon will release in the music industry. The solo artist has shown a variety of music colors through numerous projects and collaborations.

In addition, Girls' Generation Taeyeon has proven to be the "queen of digital music charts" as she enters domestic and international charts with each song she releases. Considering this, interest and expectation for her December comeback in the K-Pop industry are increasing.

Meanwhile, Taeyeon has been continuously carrying out her music activities. Early this year, she reissued the studio album "Purpose" featuring three new tracks including the song "Dear Me." Written by Hwang Yura and Yoo Jiwon, "Dear Me" is described as a ballad song that features strings, guitar, and Taeyeon's emotional singing.

Upon its release on Jan. 15, the track debuted at No. 21 on Gaon Digital Chart for the week of Jan. 12 to 18. Considering this, "Dear Me" becomes the 36th top 20 single on the chart of Girl's Generation's Taeyeon. Moreover, The song also landed on the Billboard K-Pop Hot 100 at No. 16.

Following the launching of the repackaged album, the solo artist embarked on "The Unseen Concert." It first took place on Jan. 27 at Olympic Handball Gymnasium in Seoul, South Korea. Taeyeon was also supposed to hold a concert in Singapore, Thailand, and Taiwan. However, because of the COVID-19 outbreak, the shows were postponed and the schedules are yet to be announced.

Apart from that, the Girls' Generation member also won several awards from the 29th Seoul Music Awards this past January. She received the OST Award, Bonsang, and the Daesang Award (main prize).

On May 4, the idol launched the digital single "Happy." It was initially scheduled to be released on Mar. 9 in celebration of her birthday. However, it was postponed because of her father's death the same day, and her grandmother's passing more than a month later.

"Happy" consists of lyrics about the happiness found during the times spent with loved ones. The song debuted at No. 1 on all of South Korea's music real-time charts except Flo. It also topped iTunes Top Song Charts in 15 regions, and No. 9 on the Billboard World Digital Songs chart.

In other news, Girls' Generation's Taeyeon was recently cast as a fixed member of tvN's "Amazing Saturday" along with her labelmate SHINee's Key. The episode featuring her first appearance on the show as a permanent cast will air on Nov. 21 at 7:40 p.m. KST.
