Listen as Singer-Songwriter Motte Puts You into 'Airplane Mode'

Indie singer-songwriter Motte returns with a new relaxing track, "Airplane Mode," released Sunday, Nov. 22.

Motte, known for her calming vocals and equally serene rhythms, returns with a live clip for her new single. In the 3:19 video, the Korean singer-songwriter is sporting a casual outfit, with only a wired microphone to accompany her. She performs in what appears to be an unfinished establishment, with the walls still exposed and having only frames in between rooms. Somehow, the raw and bare background seems to complement her raw performance - a pure and relatable song.

"I am in the water. Oh, I am on a plane. They do not respect my opinion," Motte sings in the chorus. In the song, Motte refers to the "Airplane Mode" feature, a setting on most modern smartphones that temporarily suspends all radio transmission technologies. It metaphorically represents cutting oneself off, mostly as a means of finding peace. Paired with the lo-fi rhythm that has been trendy nowadays, as a piece of meditative background music, "Airplane Mode" is perfect for an afternoon of letting it all out.

In a statement, Ruby Records described "Airplane Mode" as a song "full of beats and jazz melodies with trendy "lo-fi" sounds, which expresses Motte's charms well." It follows the singer-songwriter's previous singles "ELEVATOR," "Jet Lag," and the recent "Rocket," released just last month.

Motte has also written, and performed songs for television dramas such as Naver's "A-Teen," KBS2's "Men are Men," and JTBC's "Was It Love?"

The caption accompanying the YouTube video announces the release of her song across all major music sites. Her label, Ruby Records, also expressed hopes of sharing her unique sound. Soon after the video's release for "Airplane Mode," Motte also shared the cover art of her latest track on her Instagram account, made by the graphic artist "nosunstar." The Korean graphics artist also shared the cover art on her own IG page, inviting her followers to listen to Melon's song, the online music streaming platform.

"After the video of this song was released first, I heard that you can relate to the lyrics a lot," Motte wrote on her IG post. "I was comforted by the thought that I was not alone in the deep water. I think it's my turn to get you out of the water! How are you all doing in this chilly weather?"

Ruby Records added that while it is difficult to meet face-to-face due to the coronavirus pandemic, Motte continues to communicate with her fans through her music, online live shows, and social networking sites.

"These days, when COVID-19 makes it difficult to meet on stage and we cannot go anywhere, why don't we give our hearts, that have been going nonstop, a well-deserved rest through 'Airplane Mode?'" Ruby Records said in a statement.
