Amid allegations suggesting they are a copycat of BLACKPINK, the Malaysian girl group DOLLA denied those claims in an interview.

Back in October, DOLLA was accused of copying BLACKPINK. The group was accused of imitating the group's style and sound. Even their visuals were compared to BLACKPINK's members, Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa.

According to past reports, DOLLA received flack for their strong and sexy concept, which strongly resembles BLACKPINK's last work. They were called out for their fashion, and member Syasya was called out for having a similar hairstyle to BLACKPINK's Lisa.

However, the group insists that they have their own style and that any similarities between them are coincidental. In an interview with Harian Metro, member Sabronzo stressed that DOLLA is their own group, with their own image, sound, and style. She explains that though they are huge fans of BLACKPINK and look up to them, they are in no way, shape, or form trying to imitate them.

She said, "I am aware that there are those people who think that DOLLA is trying to imitate BLACKPINK's performance and style. However, any similarity between them and us is purely coincidental. What we are fighting for is to establish DOLLA's musical identity while singing and dancing as a group. In my eyes, DOLLA has its own identity."

The group also mentions that they are trying to establish themselves, as there are not many all-female girl groups popular in Malaysia. The only two notable girl groups from Malaysia are Feminine and Elite.

Sabronzo says that even if they are accused of copying and are flooded with negative comments, the members of the group acknowledge that everyone is entitled to their own opinions. They have chosen not to interact with any negative comments.

"On social media, netizens feel like that they can comment whatever they want. I think constructive criticism can help us rectify our shortcomings. However, we have chosen to leave those extreme comments alone. DOLLA is comfortable and calm because, for us, every person has their own points of view. We have chosen not to pay attention to comments with harsh and rude words."

DOLLA debuted back in March with the song "Make You Wanna." The music video for the song currently sits with over 2.7 million views on YouTube. The group is composed of members Sabronzo, Tabby, Syasya, and Angel. They aim to be a "new-gen girl group" with the goal to empower women and promote self-confidence in Malaysia.
