K-pop groups BTS and BLACKPINK have been nominated for TIME Magazine's "Person of the Year 2020." Read more about it here.

TIME Magazine's "Person of the Year" features and showcases a person, group, or idea that has influenced the year's events for better or for worse. TIME Magazine has annually been announcing who the "Person of the Year" is every year since 1927.

On Tuesday, Nov. 24, TIME Magazine opened up online voting for their "Person of the Year," where fans can select who they think influenced the year. BTS and BLACKPINK are the only K-pop groups to be nominated. 

While fans are able to vote for their chosen "Person of the Year," TIME Magazine stresses that whoever wins the polls are only the "People's Choice" for the title. The editors of TIME Magazine are overall in charge of voting on named "Person of the Year."

BTS was previously nominated for the title in 2019. Previously, BTS was selected as TIME Magazine's "Next Generation Leaders." They also appeared in the magazine's "25 Most Influential People on the Internet" list from 2017 to 2019 and the "100 Most Influential People in the World" list in 2019. The magazine has also named BTS as the "Princes of Pop." 

This is BLACKPINK's first time to be nominated for the "Person of the Year" title. Previously, the YG Entertainment girl group appeared in TIME Magazine's "100 Next List" in 2019. At the time, the group was noted for being the first Korean female act to perform in Coachella and was praised for heralding a new era of K-pop groups performing globally. 

The "Person of the Year" will be announced on Dec. 10. Will you be voting?

BTS is a South Korean boy group under Big Hit Entertainment that debuted in 2013. The group consists of seven members: RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook. BLACKPINK is the highest-charting K-pop girl group on the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200. They are also the first K-pop girl group to enter and top the Billboard's Emerging Artists chart. The girl group has the most top 40 hits in the United States among K-pop artists.

BLACKPINK is the most-subscribed music group, girl group, and Asian act on YouTube. Additionally, they are the first music group and K-pop group to have three music videos surpass one billion views. They are also the most-followed girl group on Spotify.
