Aespa Ningning Spotted Wearing Shorts...in Freezing Cold Winter Weather

On Thursday, Dec. 17, numerous online communities including TheQoo shared posts concerning Aespa member Ningning's recent thin clothing. The post contained photos of the Chinese idol from Wednesday, Dec. 16, when Aespa was seen their way to the pre-recording for KBS's Gayo Daechukje.
Members Karina, Giselle, and Winter were all seen wearing thick, padded jackets, mufflers, and thick boots. The three were seen with numerous layers of clothing to protect themselves from the cold winter, as, in South Korea, the temperature tends to drop to as much as -12 degrees celsius.
Ningning, however, was seen wearing a pair of short shorts and a zip-up hoodie. She was also seen wearing black boots that go up to her knees. The idol is seen holding a larger, thicker jacket in her arms, but she is not wearing it. She looks unfazed by the harsh cold. If people were unaware it was winter, they would probably assume it was Spring or early Autumn!
Seeing photos of Ningning and then photos of her other members, it is almost as if they are experiencing different seasons despite being photographed the same day. Some people expressed concern over the idol and wondered if she was freezing while showing so much skin.
However, there is a logical reason why Ningning is so calm and collected in this weather. Ningning is a native of Harbin, China. Her hometown is known to boast extremely cold temperatures, so much so that Harbin is even called "The Winter Kingdom of China". In Harbin, the temperatures can drop as low as -20 degrees Celsius in December, which is almost 30 degrees Celsius lower than the average temperature in South Korea. In Harbin, the temperature can even drop to -30 degrees celsius, but it can feel much colder due to the fierce winds.

Because of this, Ningning is not as affected by the winter weather in South Korea as her members are. In fact, some have joked that she might even find it hot right now! Others confessed that they thought she dressed in thin clothing to look good for the cameras, but in reality, it is because she is used to much colder weather.

Ningning debuted with Aespa on Nov. 17 with the debut single "Black Mamba", SM Entertainment's first girl group in six years. Their last girl group to debut was Red Velvet in 2014. Previously, the group made headlines for their unique concept of having virtual counterparts for their members. Prior to her debut, Ningning was a member of SM Entertainment's pre-debut team, SM Rookies.

Previously, there was backlash over Ningning's addition to the group due to her being Chinese. Many had expressed that they no longer wanted Chinese members to debut due to the number of times Chinese idols have chosen to go back to their country after earning fame as a K-pop star. People also claimed a Chinese member should not be the main vocal due to doubts over her pronunciation and just in case she leaves the group.
