Korean Netizens Divided Over Chinese Trainee Ningning's Possible Position in Aespa

Netizens continue to show divided opinions over SM Rookies and possible Aespa member Ningning. Many people have expressed their distaste for her addition to the group for being Chinese. Now, some netizens claim they don't deserve her rumored position in the group. Read more here.

During Ningning's SM Rookies days, she showed off her impressive vocals. Even early on in her trainee career, she was seen able to hit high notes despite not being thoroughly trained yet. With that, many people were impressed with her skills, and people speculated that if she were to debut in a group, she would be the main vocalist.

Now, it appears to be coming true. Though she is not confirmed as a member of Aespa, it is highly speculated she will be making the line-up as she is one of the most famous trainees. While she did not receive much hate during her trainee days, Ningning is now the center of attention due to Aespa and her ethnicity.

Previously, Korean netizens slammed Ningning for being Chinese. She is from Harbin, China, and was previously in a show called 'Let's Sing Kids' in China alongside NCT Dream's Chenle. She was one of the two popular Chinese trainees. It was originally her a Xu Yiyang, but Yiyang ultimately left the company.

Now, Korean netizens claim she should not be the main vocalist of Aespa. They believe the main vocalist should be Korean just in case Ningning decides to go back to China. Others on the other hand just claim her voice is not good enough to be the main vocalist and that a Korean girl should be the main vocalist in her face.

"No, but the main vocalist should at least be a Korean member. If she leaves the group and returns to China, who will take all the singing parts for the group?"

"Are you sure she is the main vocalist???"

"SM doesn't have a Korean main vocalist?"

"I think her vocal skills are good, but I think she needs to fix her Korean pronunciation. Personally, I am not attracted to her voice."

"Wow, if the main vocalist returns to China, what will you do with the girl group?"

Others, on the other hand, called out the netizens for being racist against Ningning just because she is Chinese. Many called them out for how harsh they were when she hasn't even debuted. Others complimented her vocals and said that she has a beautiful voice.

"Why are you guys blaming her for things that have not even happened? Why do you guys live like that?"

"Her voice is clear and beautiful."

"Her voice is beautiful and good. I think she will do well if she practices a lot before debuting."

"She sings so well, her voice is clear and she had good pronunciation. I hope she does well if she does debut."

"Wow, look at all the mean comments for a kid who has not even debuted yet."

Tensions between South Korea and China are extremely high now following K-pop group BTS's controversy in China. After the group made their Van Fleet Award speech, China claimed the group was being insensitive to their soldiers, as China had fought in the Korean War siding with North Korea. South Korea, on the other hand, accuses China of distorting the history of the Korean War and spreading propaganda that manipulated history. Recently, a national petition was filed banning certain Chinese idols from actively promoting in the country.
