BTS Suga, EXO Baekhyun, and More: Genius Korea Selects Their Top Male Soloists in 2020

While many K-pop groups released chart-topping songs in 2020, we cannot forget the soloists who also made their mark on the music industry. Genius Korea named their top male solo artists of 2020. Keep on reading to see who they chose.

Genius Korea released their "2020 Year-End Genius Korea Chart", which is a ranking compiled by the Genius Korea community moderators. All of the male artists mentioned in this list were active in 2020. The rankings are determined by the total page views of the respective artist and the concurrent lyric searches on Genius.

Sitting at number one on Genius Korea's list is Agust D, also known as BTS member Suga. 2020 was a busy year for Agust D. Not only was he packed with BTS activities, but he also produced and featured IU's song "Eight", which was released on May 6, 2020. The song debuted at number one on both the Gaon Digital Chart and Billboard World Digital Songs Chart.

He also released his second solo mixtape, "D-2", on May 22, 2020. Alongside the mixtape, he dropped a music video for the mixtape's title track "Daechwita". The mixtape peaked at number 76 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and at number eleven on the Billboard 2020, making it the highest-charting album by a Korean soloist. It also reached the top 10 in the United Kingdom, debuting at number seven on the charts.

Sitting at number two is yet another BTS member - V! While V has never formally made a solo debut, he has released some solo songs through BTS's albums and has shared some songs to the group's official SoundCloud page. In 2020, V released the song "Sweet Night" for the soundtrack of the popular JTBC drama, "Itaewon Class".

The song received positive reviews for its composition, V's vocal performance, and the song's heart-warming lyrics. Impressively, V produced, wrote, and sung the whole song by himself. The all-English OST debuted at number 2 on the Billboard U.S. Digital Song Sales chart, making it the highest a Korean soloist has ever charted since the chart's inception. On Dec. 25, 2020 (Christmas Day), V released the solo song "Snow Flower" featuring Peakboy.

At the number three spot, we have Wonho, who used to be a member of MONSTA X. The soloist signed with Highline Entertainment on April 10, 2020. He dropped his first solo song on Aug. 14, an all-English pre-release single titled "Losing You". The song was praised for his vocals and his musicality, as Wonho has participated in songwriting, composing, and production of the track.
