BTS and BLACKPINK Set First Records, Titles at The 35th Golden Disc Awards

Referred to as the "biggest boy and girl groups in the world," BTS and BLACKPINK created new history with their new feats during the "Golden Disc Awards!"

On Jan. 11, Monday, the global K-pop superstars BTS and BLACKPINK reportedly set first records at 2021's Golden Disc Awards with CURAPROX.

The awards ceremony, which was held on January 9 and 10, gave honors to various artists that showcased excellence in the music field last year. Among the K-pop artists and groups that received awards, BTS and BLACKPINK's achievements wrote new records.

BTS Becomes First Artist to Have Most Daesangs and Bonsangs from GDA

The global group BTS sets the first record during the two-day awards ceremony, after winning five daesangs in a row for the fourth consecutive year.

In particular, this year marked the fourth time BTS won "Album of the Year" or Disc Daesang, along with a digital daesang they brought home last year -- making it five in total.

Due to this, BTS becomes an artist with most-daesang, and the first group to earn the award five times in a row, not to mention that they achieved this as well in a short period of time. Furthermore, BTS also won the most Bonsang trophies in the history of "GDA."

BTS defeated the "Emperor of Ballad" Shin Seung Hoon, who was the former title-holder with 10 bonsang trophies. The seven-member group succeeded the singer as they won a total of 11 Bonsang trophies.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK who is the first girl group to become a "million-seller," has written a record of winning the "Best Album" award.

In particular, it is the first album to receive 1,286,127 sales with its first full-length album "THE ALBUM" released in October. Just three months after, BLACKPINK's "THE ALBUM" is the first album in the history of "Golden Disc Awards" to receive both main prizes (bonsang). Also, it was nominated for both grand prizes (daesang) in digital song and album divisions.

The quartet during the ceremony took home, "Best Album" (Bonsang) through "THE ALBUM," as well as "Best Digital Song"(Bonsang) with "How You Like That." 

BLACKPINK, who was deemed as a "music powerhouse" then again proved its influence and popularity with their music and skills, which earned them new success.

On the other hand, along with BTS and BLACKPINK, Kim Ho Joong also set a record for the first male trot singer to win the "Rookie of the Year" award in the "Golden Disc Award."

On the second day of the ceremony, a trot singer received the "Rookie of the Year award" 33 years after Moon Hee-ok received it in 1987. Kim Ho Joong, who is fulfilling his mandatory military service, expressed his acceptance speech through a video clip.
