Unlike other major awards, professionals and music critics can only determine the winner in the upcoming KMA, and BTS stood a chance to win the highest honor among their five nominations!

On the afternoon of Jan. 26, a press conference was held to announce the candidates for the "18th Korean Music Awards" ceremony in February. The selection committee chairman Kim Jang Nam, along with its members Jung Jinyoung, and Kim Yoonha, attended the meeting.

Among numerous K-pop groups, BTS is the only K-pop group announced for a nomination, along with eminent singers including Baek Yerin, Sunwoo Jung-a, and more.

BTS is Nominated for Five Categories at Korean Music Awards

BTS has been nominated for five categories of "Korean Music Awards." Due to this, attention is already focused on whether BTS will be able to win the highest honor of the highly-acclaimed awards ceremony.

On the list of award nominees released, BTS was nominated for "Musician of the Year," "Song of the Year," "Album of the Year," "Best Pop Album" and "Best Pop Song."

In particular, BTS was already heralded as the "Musician of the Year" in 2018 and 2019, becoming the first K-pop artist to win the award for two consecutive years. However last year, Kim Oki took the award; thus attention is focused on whether the group will win the award for the third time.

A member of the selection committee then said:

 "There have been many overlapping artists with musical achievements in many categories this year. It's not that many albums have been released. Although the music industry has shrunk, it has been a year of overcoming this crisis with opportunities and releasing many good works."

BTS, Baek Yerin, Sunwoo Jung-a, Lee Il-chi, and Jung-ah are those who will be mentioned in the 2020 pop music scene in addition to music in general evaluation.

Many things are regrettable in terms of promoting music that people want to know a lot, but the five artists' achievements are great."

The "Korean Music Awards" was established to pay more attention to records and songs than singers, and to create a foundation for the balanced development of Korean pop music without the boundaries of mainstream and non-mainstream music.

Rather than sales, only music critics, professionals, and producers can evaluate and determine who will be awarded.

On the other hand, IU, Oh My Girl, and Zico are also nominated along with BTS for "Best Pop Album."

Zico also gets a nomination for "Song of the Year" with his hit track "Any Song" while EXO Baekhyun's second mini-album "Delight" is also nominated for the "Best Pop Album" Category.

The awards ceremony will be presented in 24 categories including "Album of the Year," "Song of the Year," "Musician of the Year, "Rookie of the Year," "Best Rock (Music, Song)," "Best Metal & Hardcore Album," "Best Pop (Music, Song)," "Best Dance & Electronic (Music, Song)," and "Best Rap & Hip Hop (Album, Song)."
