Weeekly Sets Personal Highest Records in Terms of YouTube Views and Album Sales with 'We Play'

Weeekly has shown its increasing popularity as a rookie group after setting their personal highest records when it comes to YouTube views and album sales owing to their new release "We Play."

Weeekly is a new K-pop girl group formed by Play M Entertainment. The septet debuted in June 2020, making them the company's first-ever female act after nine years since Apink's debut in April 2011. The seven members are Soojin, Monday, Jaehee, Jiyoon, Soeun, Zoa, and Jihan.

After they made their debut, Weeekly saw slight popularity and even received six rookie awards at various year-end awards ceremonies. With their recent comeback, the new K-pop girl group has seen a rise in fame.

On March 17, Weeekly made a comeback with a new extended play (EP) titled "We Play," which features the title track "After School." The rookie group has completed their album promotions that lasted for almost four weeks until April 11, when Weeekly performed "After School" on SBS's Inkigayo.

Weeekly Achieves New Highest Records on YouTube Views and Album Sales with "We Play"

Following their debut last year, Weeekly achieved a cumulative album sales of 20,000 with their first EP titled "We Are." Not to mention, they are the first 2020 rookie group to sell more than 10,000 albums last year, proving their potential of becoming one of the biggest K-pop acts in the future.

The music video for the title track "After School" also gained attention as it achieved 10 million YouTube views in its first seven days.

Weeekly made their first comeback in October of the same year with the EP "We Can," which contains the title track "Zig Zag." The MV for the single garnered 10 million views within only four days, overtaking their previous record.

With their new album "We Play," Weeekly has again beaten their personal records in terms of YouTube views and album sales, proving their constant increase in popularity.

After "We Play" was released, the EP's title track "After School" quickly debuted at No. 13 on Bugs. Moreover, the initial sales volume exceeded the record of their previous work and attained a figure of about 45% growth compared to their last album sales.

Weeekly's "We Can" album sold about 19,000 copies, while the group's "We Play" has surpassed 20,000 album sales. Based on the Hanteo Weekly Chart for the week ending on April 11, "We Play" has cumulative sales of 25,426.

Apart from album sales, the new K-po girl group also saw an increase in YouTube views. The music video for "After School" surpassed 15 million views just five days after release. As of April 12, the MV has reached 28.5 million views. This presents a big difference from their initial views on YouTube, has proven Weeekly's incredible growth and potential of becoming one of the successfully fourth-generation girl groups in K-pop.

Through Play M Entertainment, Weeekly commented on wrapping up their activities for their "We Play" album. The rookie group shared that the members were worried because there were many new attempts when preparing their new album, however, thanks to their fan club, called Daileee, they were encouraged to work hard. Weeekly also promised to work hard so that they can show a better image in the next album.
