Jang Nara, Eugene, & More: K-pop Idols Turned Actresses Who Crushed The Music Scene in the '90s

"Oh Yoon Hee from Penthouse was a K-pop idol?" With the rising population of idol-actors such as Suzy and Yoona, never forget Jang Nara, Eugene, and more who are actually K-pop idols who dominated the music industry in the '90s!

On April 15, the Korean media outlet, Newsen, recalled the original K-pop fairies in the '90s that shook the hearts of those who are currently in their 30s or 40s, including Jang Nara and Eugene.

However, their popularity didn't stop there, as up until now, the former K-pop stars are now also stealing the hearts of those who are in their 10s and 20s as actresses.

Here Are the K-pop Idols Turned Actresses Who Rose into Fame During 90's:

1. Jang Nara

Jang Nara, who established herself as a highly-acclaimed actress, proves her talent in acting with her dramas, "Fated to Love You," "Go Back Couple," "The Last Empress," "VIP," "Oh My Baby," and more.

Though she is regarded as one of the best actresses of this generation, Jang Nara is actually a K-pop icon as well!

Nara, who enjoyed her highest popularity along with BoA, whom she initially trained with under SM Entertainment--- created the "Female Solo Syndrome."

She made her debut in 2001 with "Burying My Face in Tears" and achieved her heyday with "Sweet Dream" the following year. At that time, the music video for "Sweet Dream" received a sensational response with fresh furniture and Jang Nara's lovely one-man show acting.

Her potential as an actress started after winning the "Best New Actress" award at the Baeksang Arts Award in 2003 for her notable portrayal in "Successful Story of a Bright Girl." Since then, her acting career skyrocketed, and in fact, her latest drama just premiered on April 14, titled "Sell Your Haunted House," which received positive anticipation

2. S.E.S. Eugene

Eugene, the OG "K-pop Fairy" from S.E.S., shocked the K-pop industry as she played the role of Oh Yoon Hee in the megahit drama "Penthouse."

Though she portrayed both villain and protagonist in the show, she's actually very different with her Olivia Hussey-like image when she's a K-pop idol.

With her youthful and pure visual, Eugene in the '90s was dubbed as the Korean Olivia Hussey, an English actress who played the role of Juliet of "Romeo and Juliette."

 In 1997, she announced her splendid debut with the group S.E.S. and captured the hearts of countless male fans with her visuals and sophisticated music that seemed to have popped out of pure comic books.

3. Seo Hyunjin (M.I.L.K)

Hyunjin, who cemented her name as an actress with her prominent dramas such as "Another Miss Oh," "Dr. Romantic," and "The Beauty Inside," is actually a former K-pop idol and member of SM Entertainment's M.I.L.K.

In the group, she's the youngest and lead vocalist who particularly gained massive support for her clean and clear voice. On top of that, Hyunjin is also called SM's Representative Visual Idol, along with her doppelgangers, SNSD Taeyeon, and Red Velvet Irene.

When the team dissolved, Hyunjin then focused on her acting career, later on, honored as a "Romantic-Comedy Queen."

 Meanwhile, she has confirmed her appearance on tvN's "You're My Spring," which will be produced in the first half of this year and will work with actor Kim Dongwook.

4. Lee Jung Hyun (Ava)

Lastly, Lee Jung Hyun, who is a "Best Actress" title-holder for her black comedy, "Alice in the Earnestland," is also known in the K-pop scene as "Queen of Transformation."

Jung Hyun, who is also known as Ava in every comeback, doesn't follow any concept, but she's known for making her own concepts. In particular, she's the "Techno Queen" who brought the techno genre in K-pop.

Meanwhile, she made her face and name known after starring in blockbuster movies, including "The Battleship Island" and "Peninsula."
