Kim Kardashian’s baby bump is covering a baby girl, we learned last night on the series premiere of “Keeping Up With The Kardashians.” The moment that Kim Kardashian learned the baby’s gender was caught on camera while her mother and sisters looked on and laughed. The weren't laughing when Kim announced she hoped to eat the placenta to take advantage of the health effects.

Kim Kardashian’s baby’s gender was revealed on Sunday night's premiere episode of “Keeping Up With The Kardashians.” Kim discovered the happy news during her sonogram. Kim said Kanye West “always wanted” a girl.

Kim Kardashian’s family doctor, Dr. Paul Crane, laughed to find Kim, her mother, Kris Jenner, and her sisters Kourtney and Khloe, in the waiting room together for the happy news. They weren’t laughing minutes later when Kim told everyone in the room that she hopes to eat her own placenta, saying “I really want to do it.” Her mother was outright horrified, but Dr. Crane calmed her by saying "There is whole cook books on eating placenta you know."

Placentas contain remainder nutrients and hormones that are passed from mother to child in utero. There are no clinical studies that attest to the benefit or harm or eating a placenta, but a 1954 study that aimed to increase lactation in new mothers by feeding them freeze-dried placenta found "210 women who ate placenta: 71 with very good results, 110 with good, and 29 with negative results." The good results meant an increase in breast size and milk production.

 A more recent study reported 189 "women over the age of 18 who use the Internet and who had ingested their placenta after the birth of at least one child." Most of the women interviewed were white, American, middle-class, college-educated home-birthers. Most of the women reported positive effects and said they would do it again for their next birth.

The moment that Kim Kardashian found out she was having a girl was caught on camera. Dr. Crane teased, “I don't see any pee-pees. I'm thinking it's a girl.”

Kim nervously asked “Oh my gosh! What's the percentage?” The doctor estimated that there was a 99 percent chance that she was having a baby girl.

Kim beamed, “I am so excited to be having a girl, who doesn't want a girl,” adding that Kanye, who wasn’t at the ultrasound “I know that's really what Kanye has always wanted. He wanted a little girl.”

Now it’s time to go shopping for baby clothes.
