IU's Brother Furious after Singer Mentions Him on TV + Refuses to Answer IU's Calls
On Sunday, May 16, IU uploaded a video to her channel titled "This is for you, dad." She reveals that not only is it her birth month, it is also her father's birth month.
As Parent's Day also falls in May, IU decided to make a cake and prepare presents for her father.
During the after-credits part of the video, IU gave her fans an update as to how her brother was doing in the military. She said that thanks to everyone's interest, her younger brother is doing well as he serves his mandatory military enlistment.
IU then confessed that her brother became upset with her after she revealed that he was going to the military during her appearance on tvN's "You Quiz on the Block." IU revealed that he was so upset that though he would reply to other members of the family and call them, he would not respond to IU's messages nor call her.
During her appearance on the program, IU had mentioned her brother's name, described how he looks and disclosed that he would be enlisting in the military. It turns out that her brother had been keeping his relationship with IU a secret his whole life. Aside from 4-5 close confidants, he had never disclosed that he was IU's brother.
However, after disclosing some information about him on the program, people soon realized that IU's brother was, in fact, IU's brother. In the military base, people have started to approach the male and ask if he was IU's sibling.
She proceeded to apologize to her brother for talking about him on "You Quiz on the Block" and for mentioning that he was going to the military.
Netizens who saw the video soon wondered just how similar IU and her brother looked. After all, IU had never shown a photo of her brother to the public, and the only images available of the two together are from when they were children. Others, however, expressed sympathy for the brother and how hard it must be for him now that people recognize him as IU's brother.
Many are hoping that people in the military — and outside the military — will not bother him just because he is IU's brother.

IU released her fifth Korean-language full-length studio album, "LILAC," on Mar. 25, 2021. On the first day of its release, "LILAC" sold 216,319 copies, according to Hanteo Chart. This makes "LILAC" the second-highest selling album by a South Korean female soloist on its first week.
"LILAC" topped the weekly Gaon Album Chart, making it IU's fifth release to do so. All ten tracks from her album charted within the top 30 of the Gaon Digital Chart. Additionally, following the release of "LILAC," several of IU's older songs re-entered the Gaon Digital Chart.
In May 2021, "LILAC" was certified platinum for selling over 250,000 copies.
