WJSN The Black Shares Insight as the Second Subunit in Exclusive Interview
The Cosmic Girls has recently debuted its second subunit, WJSN The Black, and they are opening up about the experience in an interview from Starship Entertainment.
Making their debut with the release of their album "My Attitude" last May 12, 6 PM KST, WJSN The Black has immediately established itself with its girl crush image. They have been called the "Boss Unit" by fans on social media, owing to their strong and mature image. Furthermore, their image is further complemented by their representative color, Black, which easily blends with others and is liked by a lot of people.
Now, in a new interview with their label Starship Entertainment, the members of WJSN The Black - SeolA, EXY, Eunseo, and Bona - share their insights and aspirations as the Cosmic Girls' second subunit.

Q. You're going to the second unit of WJSN. How do you feel about debuting as a unit right after UNNATURAL?
Exy: It was very touching to think of our debut as a unit. My friends from WJSN Chocome said that they felt a lot of vacant seats while on stage, but unlike when I was practicing in a group, I felt a lot of empty space. Also, I think there was a sense of duty and pressure that the members had to work harder so that no one gets left behind.
SeolA: It's my first unit, so I think I'm half worried and half excited. I think the members who worked as WJSN Chocome are amazing. I personally put a lot of effort into showing charisma that matches the team name of WJSN The Black.
Bona: I keep thinking about when I just debuted as WJSN. Should I say that I feel like I went back to that time? That's how nervous I am. I think it changed my image dramatically. I wonder if Ujung will like it. Please look forward to seeing us work hard!
Eunseo: We were able to prepare happily as we met Ujung right after UNNATURAL. I hope UJUNG will like our new challenge and support us a lot.
Q. Last year, WJSN Chocome received a lot of attention as the first unit of WJSN. Was there any pressure on being the second one?
Bona: Actually, The Black concept of WJSN and Chocome are different, so I think it's lucky that we can show UJUNG various sides of us as WJSN. I had a great time preparing for it. If you showed your charm with retro concept, we tried to look mannish and chic. I was very excited.
Eunseo: I thought it was a good opportunity rather than a burden. It's good to be able to show you WJSN's unique side when we're working as a group, and we can show you what each member has. I thought it was an opportunity for WJSN to show that they are a group that can pull off various colors.
Q. What kind of album is WJSN The Black's "My Attitude," and what's the message it tries to send?
SeolA: I think "My Attitude" is an album that sheds the original image of WJSN you've known. The music video for "Easy" came out in a mysterious mood like a movie. I believe Ujung will like it because it came out better than I thought. It's a bit tickling to think about, but if WJSN sings with a hint of love on stage, our goal [WJSN The Black] is to seduce our listeners with "Easy."
Bona: The track "Kiss Your Lips" is also very attractive. If the word for "Easy" is fatal temptation, "Kiss Your Lips" is a secret and secret feeling. The melody is very dreamy, so when you listen to it, you fall in love with it and stimulate your imagination. If you focus on the lyrics, you'll be able to feel more attractive.
Q. Exy wrote lyrics for "Easy" and "Kiss Your Lips." What was the focus of your work?
Exy: If existing WJSN songwriters focused on fantasy elements and fairytale-like lyrics that fit the team color, "Easy" and "Kiss Your Lips" tried to make more direct and hip flows that WJSN hasn't shown before. I hope you love WJSN The Black's song!
Q. WJSN has been loved for its performances on stage. What's different with watching WJSN The Black's title track, "Easy?"
Bona: There's a choreography that uses a costume jacket in the middle of the stage. I think this part is a great point for the performance of "Easy," without difficulty no matter who follows it. We used to call it a standing muscle dance when we practiced. We wanted to make it more reminiscent of the song. So we named it the "So Easy dance."
Eunseo: The choreography for "Easy" was produced by One Million Dance Studio's Lia Kim. The choreography itself is very powerful. If you look at our charismatic facial expressions or WJSN's chemistry with The Black, you'll be able to enjoy the performance.
Q. What do you want fans to see in WJSN's The Black?
SeolA: "Did Cosmic Girl even have this look?" If you hear this, you can see that we've succeeded. WJSN's image has not been established, but we want to remind you that we still have endless concepts to show you.
Exy: I don't think we should always show the same side of ourselves. Just as we focused on the words "mature" and "change" while preparing for WJSN The Black album, I hope that we can hear that we have improved musically and in performance.
Q. Share a message for your fans.
Exy: I'm so sad that we rarely have the opportunity to perform in person because of Covid-19, but I hope the day comes when we can perform while listening to UJUNG's cheers. Please look forward to WJSN's The Black promotions!
SeolA: It's safe to say that the second unit was able to come out because of friendship. We can promote with confidence no matter what the concept is, thanks to UJUNG's support, so please show a lot of love for'My attitude' as well.
