Red Velvet Joy Cries While Eating Watermelon During Debut Countdown Live Stream
On Monday, May 31, Red Velvet member Joy held a solo debut countdown live stream through V Live. Joy communicated with fans throughout the live stream and spoke about her debut mini-album, "Hello."
After reading the fans' real-time comments, Joy proceeded to read letters from fans that the production team gathered and prepared for her. The idol then stated that now that she was done laughing, it was time to read her fans' supportive and heartfelt words.
The first letter Joy picked up read, "You have been our Joy, and now we will be your courage! We will be with Joy through every new beginning and challenge."
As soon as she read the letter aloud, Joy started getting emotional.

Joy then confessed that she had a hard time reading the letters because she was afraid she would cry. The idol took her time going through each letter and revealed that she was so touched by her fans' words.
Joy then stated that she wished someone would read the letters to her, as she believed she would cry if she read it herself.
The following letter Joy selected showed support for Joy's solo album. They sympathized with the idol, noting that she must have felt a wave of emotions preparing for her debut and that she must have had a difficult time.
The fan states that no matter what kind of music Joy pursues in the future, ReVeluvs (Red Velvet's fan club name) will always like and support her no matter what Joy does.

As she read the message, Joy started shedding tears. She picked up another letter and stated she did not want to cry, hiding her face from the camera and showing the letter to the viewers.
The letter read, "You have always been our Sooyoung (Joy's real name), and no matter how you appear in front of us, you will always be our Joy, Sooyoung. Thank you for appearing in front of ReVeluvs after all your hard work. I love you."
At this point, Joy had burst into tears.

Despite the mood, Joy decided to read a comment from a fan who had asked her to eat the watermelon that was in front of her. Joy decided to take a bite though she was crying and revealed that the watermelon was delicious through her tears. She stated that the watermelon helped her feel better.
Though the live stream was meant to be a countdown to her solo debut, Joy decided to end the live stream five minutes earlier than planned as she could no longer control her tears.
Joy released her debut mini-album, "Hello," on May 31 at 6 PM KST. The album contains remakes of popular songs from the 19990s and 2000s.
