Here Are the K-pop Rock Bands That You Should Definitely Stan

If you are looking for something to satisfy your ears with both K-pop and rock genres, then you might want to listen to –Day6, The Rose, N.Flying, and more – the Korean rock bands that you should definitely stan now!

If you think the Korean music scene only centers on K-pop, then you are wrong. In fact, there are actually a lot of genres such as indie, trot, rock, etc. that you can enjoy if you'll dive deeper into the music industry!

As K-pop rock is currently gaining more attention from music enthusiasts, let us check out the South Korean rock bands, that you should definitely stan for their bop songs!

1. F.T. Island

One of the earliest Korean rock band in the industry, the second-gen group are truly iconic for their release and achievements. Despite the influx of idol boy bands in the music scene, the three legendary members carved their name in the industry with Korean rock. The group consists of the main vocalist Lee Hong Gi, bassist Lee Jaejin and drummer Choi Min Hwan.

Just right after their debut with "Love Sick," it topped domestic charts for two consecutive months and their album, "Cheerful Sensibility", also became the sixth best-selling album in 2017. These records made them the " Best Male New Male Group" in the same year.

2. CNBLUE

If we are talking about K-pop rock bands, this list is not complete without CNBLUE! A legendary band from 2009, the team is comprised of three members; the leader, main vocalist, guitarist and keyboardist Jung Yong Hwa, drummer Kang Min Hyuk, and bassist Lee Jung Shin. But despite their positions, they are actually all-rounders who can both play instruments and sing!

Initially, they debuted in Japan and later expanded to Korea in 2010 due to international success and domestic demand.

If you are a new fan, you should definitely listen to their debut track, "I'm a Loner"!

3. The Rose

If you're not still a fan of The Rose, you are missing out a lot! The Rose is composed of four members: guitarist and vocalist Kim Woosung, keyboardist Park Dojoon, drummer Lee Hajoon, and bassist Lee Jae Hyeong.

Despite coming from a small company, J&Star, their release, "Sorry" in 2017 trended on various media and channels, including YouTube and Twitter. On top of that, they also gained recognition from Rolling Stone India, Billboard for their track.

In 2020, the TikTok platform became a way for them to be recognized by more music fans with their incredible covers of various songs including "ILYSB."

In 2021, their popularity continues despite contract disputes with their former agency. In June, Woosung released his solo track, "Lazy," while the other members are currently in the military.

4. Day6

Indeed, Day6 is truly one of the current most popular K-pop rock bands that deserve more recognition!

The band is composed of five members, including Jae, Young K, Sungjin, Wonpil, and Dowoon. They are not regarded for playing their own instruments but the members are also involved in writing, composing, and producing their own songs.

If you want to are a new fan, they have a long list of discography to enjoy, including "The Book of Us" series! In fact, their sub-unit Even of Day just dropped their second EP, "Right Through Me," on July 5, which is certainly a must listen as well!

5. N.Flying

Another band that is catching the interest of music fans is N.Flying! Interestingly, they are under the genre of rap-rock who initially rose to popularity in Japan in 2013.

In 2015, they then expanded in South Korea, with their single, "Awesome." The group is currently composed of Lee Sung Hyub, Cha Hun, Kim Jaehyun, Yoo Hwesung, and Seo Dongsung.

Although they were initially compared to their seniors F.T. Island and CNBLUE, they proved their own name after their track, "Rooftop," ranked No.1 on major Korean charts and Gaon.

On June 7, 2021, N.Flying just released their first Korean studio album, "Man on the Moon."
