MONSTA X member Shownu has left for his mandatory military service, fulfilling his duty for national defense.
On July 22, Shownu entered the South Korean military training center. He is set to begin his alternative military service, working as a social worker, as soon as he completes his basic military training. In line with the government's precautions against the spread of COVID-19, the military service for Shownu was held privately, behind closed doors, and without media coverage.
Before he began his military service, Shownu showed his short hair across the MONSTA X official SNS channels. As he showed his determination to serve his country, he was immediately showered with messages of support and admiration from MONBEBE all over the world. Even other members of MONSTA X showed solidarity with their leader, sharing a picture of all six members together.
"Since MONBEBE (official fan club name) has been with me since my debut, I realized that I am a very happy person," Shownu said through a statement from his agency, Starship Entertainment. "As a Korean man, I will faithfully serve and come back healthy with a more mature appearance."
Expressing his worries for both his fans and his group mates, Shownu added: "Be careful of COVID-19, and I hope you take good care of your health even though it's very hot. Please take good care of MONSTA X members who will work hard. I love you, MONBEBE&hearts."
Shownu, born Son Hyun-Woo, is a performer who first debuted as the main dancer, vocalist, and leader of the Starship Entertainment boy group MONSTA X back in 2015. He has established himself with the group's performances with "Beautiful," "DRAMARAMA," "Shoot Out," "Alligator," "FANTASIA," "Follow," and Love Killa.
