Since August 8, 2016, BLACKPINK's career skyrocketed and established itself as the leading K-pop girl group in the world.

In just four years, the female idols penetrated the prestigious U.S. chart Billboard and recorded their peak at No.2 in Billboard's main album chart with "The Album," along with ranking No.13 at "Hot 100" with "Ice Cream."

In terms of social media platforms, BLACKPINK is also sitting atop as the female artist with most YouTube subscribers, beating pop star Ariana Grande as they earned 63.7 million subscribers as of the 7th.

As they continue to reign in the music scene, Justin Bieber, who currently ranked No.1 after reaching 60 million in about 11 years, is expected to be beaten by BLACKPINK — who earned the milestone half the period the male global star achieved his subscribers.

In terms of popularity, the Korea Foundation for International Culture Exchange (KOFICE) hailed BLACKPINK as the most popular girl group from 2018-2020 based on the "2021 Global Hallyu Trend" report, trailing behind BTS as the No.1 most popular K-pop group.

Reasons Why BLACKPINK is Unique and Different from Other Girl Groups

Along with their achievements, the Korean media outlet also emphasized why BLACKPINK is a signature girl group.

First, BLACKPINK is expanding in the music scene with its "multinational" identity and full-packed group's talent and skill. Newsis said, "Being pretty isn't everything, you need to have unexpected power."

Jisoo, who was born and raised in Korea, Lisa from Thailand, Rose, who grew up in Australia, and Jennie, who spent her childhood in New Zealand, are all fluent English speakers, gaining appeal in the global market.

Although they are all drop-dead gorgeous, it is not only their weapon but as well as their experiences after training for four to six years under the Korean strict training system in YG Entertainment.

BLACKPINK also showcases a variety of cultures, rising as a cultural phenomenon beyond music. Earlier last year, BLACKPINK's music video for "How You Like That" and a modified hanbok on stage drew global attention.

Aside from the K-pop stage, BLACKPINK is also crowned as trendsetters and "fashion icons" of the fashion world. Each is working as luxury brand models; Jisoo for Dior and Cartier, Jennie for Chanel, Rosé for Yves Saint Laurent, and Lisa for Bvlgari, Celine, and Prada.
