Hosts of a Dominican radio show are currently under fire for their xenophobic and racist remarks about BTS, even calling them the "Chinese Backstreet Boys."

Dominican Radio Hosts Calls BTS the 'Chinese Backstreet Boys,' Under Fire for Xenophobic and Racist Remarks

Even before the beginning of the Stop Asian Hate movement, Asians have been facing racism and xenophobia from all over the world, and K-Pop superstars BTS is no stranger to that despite their status and global fame.

More recently, a Dominican radio show called "Esto No Es Radio" and its hosts have come under fire for the racist and xenophobic remarks they made about BTS.

Based on a clip of the radio hosts talking about BTS that is being heavily circulated on multiple social media platforms and currently trending, the hosts describe how there is a "religion" that "most girls practice" called the "BTS religion."

When another host asked what BTS is, they called the seven-member group the "Chinese version of Backstreet Boys" and the "Chinese grafts."

One of the female hosts remarked, "They are like, of that part of the world, but they do surgery on themselves to look like North Americans but mixed with Asian," referring to the stereotypes surrounding K-Pop idols (and Asians in general) and plastic surgery, and bringing in the topic of ethnicity.

The radio hosts continue to call BTS as Chinese, while also knowing that the group sing and produce Korean music.

They also mentioned how BTS is very active on social media, and girls search about them but "don't follow them," and that a singer named Chayanne is more famous than them.

One of the hosts also commented how "they are crazy" as fans spend around eight hours on BTS.

In particular, the hosts also mentioned Chinese star Kris Wu and the recent sexual assault allegations surrounding him, and the Chinese prosecution approving his arrest on the suspicion of rape.

Following the radio show's airing, K-Pop fans and non-fans alike have condemned the show and its hosts, and have shared the clip of their problematic remarks numerous times on social media, along with trending the hashtags "#EstoNoEsRadioXenofobico," "#XenophobiaIsNotHumor," and "#StopAsianHate."

Fans are also demanding that the radio station and its hosts release an apology. As of this writing, both the radio station and the show have yet to release a statement.

This isn't the first time a show has made racist and xenophobic remarks about BTS. Back in March, German radio host Matthias Matuschik came under heavy fire after comparing BTS with the fatal COVID-19, stating that "BTS is some crappy virus that will hopefully have a vaccine for soon as well."

In the following month, Chilean show "Mi Barrio" also faced intense backlash after their racist portrayal of BTS, mocking the Korean language and their names, calling them "Kim Jong Un," "Kim Jong Dos," and so forth, referring to North Korea's leader, Kim Jong Un.
