LABOUM Yujeong Announces Departure from the Group

In the early hours of September 8 KST, LABOUM's leader and lead vocalist, Yujeong, took to her personal Instagram account to announce her departure as a member of the group with a handwritten letter.

In her letter, Yujeong shares that she wanted to give the news of her departure personally and instead of through media outlets.

"First of all, I want to earnestly thank you for loving our five year old song, 'Journey to Atlantis.' It was a miracle and like a dream because our contract period was about to end," said Yujeong.

She continues, "Fast forward to August 28, our seven-year exclusive contract with our label has come to an end. My label and I have been discussing this for several months since March this year, and I openly conveyed my thoughts with the company."

According to Yujeong, she and her label, Global H Media (a joint venture of NH Media and Nega Network), have mutually decided to part ways after the seventh anniversary of the group, while the rest of the LABOUM members - Soyeon, ZN, Haein, and Solbin - have renewed their contracts with the label and continue their activities as LABOUM.

"I am 30 years old now, and I had to make a careful decision that could potentially change my life. I had a difficult decision to make so I have been thinking and praying a lot for the past year when I took a break due to the pandemic.. and I have finally made my decision," said Yujeong.

"From when I first became LABOUM in August 2014 to August 2021, I am really grateful to our members Soyeon, ZN, Haein, and Solbin, who have protected the team for seven years in their respective positions up to this moment," continued the now-former LABOUM leader.

Yujeong also looks back at her time as the group's leader, and says that although she may not have been the best leader, she can shamelessly say that she has worked diligently to be accountable for the group as their leader and oldest sister.

There were also many lonely and difficult moments, and there were numerous times that it became too difficult that Yujeong couldn't even take care of herself, but the idol has never once regretted the choices that she had made. "I loved being on stage and I was happy whenever I sang. Thanks to Latte (name of fandom) who always support us no matter what, we were energized and were able to get to where we are today," added Yujeong.

She also thanks everyone who has sent her words of encouragement, even if it was just a passing word, as well as sincerely thank those who have supported her, including her acquaintances.

Ending her letter, Yujeong says she will keep moving forward while taking on new challenges and keep her experiences thus far in her deepest heart and mature based on that thankfulness.

She also asks fans to continue cheering on her path as Yujeong, and continue supporting the rest of the LABOUM members too. And lastly, she thanks her label for supporting their album releases and being with the group.
