On September 17, Apink's agency PlayM Entertainment, and THE BOYZ's Cre.Ker Entertainment announced the plan of joining forces to become a new integrated label.
In particular, Kakao Entertainment (hereinafter KAKAO), which is the parent company, decided to complete the merging process this year.
PlayM x Cre.Ker Entertainment to Become an Integrated Label
According to Kakao Entertainment, it will integrate its subsidiary labels, PlayM Entertainment and Cre.Ker Entertainment, to launch a new label.
Based on reports, KAKAO held a board meeting with PlayM and Cre.Ker and decided to merge the two companies and launch them as a new integrated label.
The merger process will be completed by the end of this year, and Jang Hyun Jin, CEO of PlayM, and Yoon Young Ro, CEO of Cre.Ker, will run the new label, collaboratively.
The mission of the newly merged corporation and detailed merger procedures will be disclosed later.
KAKAO Explained More Details Following Merger between PlayM and Cre.Ker: What Will Happen to the Artists?
In line with this news, Kakao Entertainment further explained that the merger of the two companies is part of its long-term project which is a multi-label system.
In context, Kakao aims to operate various labels through a multi-label system. This system will let each label receives support on maintaining its independent musical personality and color based on a stable system, while expanding its label to various genres such as global idols, vocalists, producers, and composers.
Kakao Entertainment said, "We will continue to upgrade the multi-label system and strengthen the competitiveness of the music business by independently strengthening the core capabilities of each label, creating strong integrated synergy and expanding its scope to various genres."
This will also benefit Kakao to strengthen its power in the K-pop industry by combining the strategies of the two labels.
Currently, PlayM is home to various K-pop artists including Apink, Victon, Huh Gak, and Weeekly – while Cre.Ker has THE BOYZ.
It is expected that the new integrated label will promote the artists actively and boldly. The new label's goal is to expand their artists' areas as well, particularly in the music field. With PlayM and Cre.Ker's ability to create various synergies based on the core capabilities and stable production systems of the music business — K-pop enthusiasts are focused if how it will help the artists under them to rise in the K-pop stage.
