Jeon Somi Shares She Wrote Songs for I.O.I and Hopes to Release Them in the Future

Jeon Somi guested on a radio show where she revealed that she had written songs for her former girl group I.O.I.

On the afternoon of Nov. 18, Jeon Somi guested on MBC Radio FM4U's "Kim Shinyoung's Noon Song of Hope."

During the broadcast, Kim Shinyoung congratulated the female idol for hitting 100 million views on YouTube with "DUMB DUMB." Jeon replied, "Didn't you play my 'DUMB DUMB' about three times? I was really touched."

Jeon Somi recently released her first full album "XOXO" in just three months since "DUMB DUMB" came out. Regarding her speedy comeback, the radio host asked, "Didn't you want to enjoy the popularity of 'DUMB DUMB' for a long time?"

The singer responded, "I had thought about that, but I prepared the full album a year in advance. After a long deliberation whether 'DUMB DUMB' or 'XOXO' should be released first, we decided to drop DUMB DUMB' first."

Apart from her new music release, the advantages and disadvantages of group and solo activities were also discussed in "Kim Shinyoung's Noon Song of Hope."

Jeon Somi shared, "When I was in a group, there was no time that I felt lonely, and I enjoyed taking pictures and eating with my bandmates."

She continued that she misses participating in group activities and recalled the time the former I.O.I members took the stage together this past May to celebrate the fifth anniversary of their debut.

The "XOXO" singer further said, "Doing solo activities make me feel shy. I keep staying in one corner."

Later on, Jeon Somi revealed that she once wrote songs for I.O.I. She explained, "I wrote them because I thought it would be nice to sing them with my members and release them in the future."

Jeon Somi Joins Becomes the Fifth Female K-pop Soloist to Debut on Billboard Global 200

On Oct. 29, Jeon Somi dropped her first full album, "XOXO," together with the music video for the title track of the same name.

"XOXO" is a pop genre song that contains lyrics written by Jeon Somi alongside Teddy, Vince, Danny Chung and Kush. It is about sending a lover away after the breakup.

For the week ending on Nov. 13, Jeon Somi's "XOXO" entered at No. 185 on the Billboard Global 200, which ranks the 200 most popular songs in a week. It is the first-ever entry of the female idol on the global chart.

Additionally, Jeon Somi is now the fifth female K-pop soloist in history to appear on the Billboard Global 200. The first to do so is IU, whose single "Celebrity" peaked at No. 78, next is BLACKPINK Rosé, who not only joined IU in this feat but also became the first female K-pop soloist to land on the chart more than once with "On the Ground" and "Gone."

Following Rosé is her Seori, who was featured in TXT's "0X1=LOVESONG (I Know I Love You)," which peaked at No. 167.

The fourth female K-pop soloist to achieve the milestone is BLACKPINK Lisa, who also had multiple entries on the Billboard Global 200 and secured a spot on the chart several times with "LALISA" and "MONEY."
