Former AOA member Jimin posted a surprise video containing her new song on her birthday, marking her first time updating her Instagram account in more than a year.
Former AOA Jimin Uploads a Video Featuring Her New Song to Instagram on Her Birthday
On Jan. 8 at midnight KST, Shin Jimin surprised fans when she shared a video containing a new song by her on her personal Instagram account. Her last update was back in July 2020.
Captioned "surprise gift for my dearest," the video shows the time she was touring London in England. Through this, former AOA Jimin revealed one of the things she was up to since she left the group.

Apart from the video, the lyrics of Shin Jimin's new song titled "Suddenly" are attracting attention. The lyrics, which were sung in English, included "I have to leave, like the suddenly, to a place where no one knows," "Every day I got used to the darkness," "I must go on, I must go on and on, I just go," and "And I know, all the love was gone, I lost my everything except myself."
The lyrics seem to imply the controversy she had back in 2020 which shook the entire K-pop industry.
In July 2020, Jimin left AOA and halt all of her activities in the entertainment industry after being caught up in a bullying controversy with her former bandmate Mina, who claimed Jimin had bullied her for 10 years. Mina, who left AOA in 2019, later unveiled that Shin Jimin had visited her in person to discuss things and apologize to her.

Besides apologizing to former AOA Mina in person, Jimin took to Instagram to share a public apology on July 4, to which Mina responded with a now-deleted post.
At the time former AOA member Jimin withdrew from the group, she also stopped uploading new photos and videos to her Instagram account and new content to her YouTube channel. Hence, many were curious as to what her current situation is.
Shin Jimin's new song "Suddenly" is also available on her SoundCloud account. Happy birthday, Jimin!
Former AOA Jimin's Last Solo and Group Release before Leaving the Group
Before she departed from AOA in 2020, Shin Jimin had a few music releases as a solo artist and as a band member.
In January 2018, former AOA member Jimin released her third digital single "Hey." This song is the second part of her collaboration project "#RTJ (Ready to Jimin)" with the fashion magazine W Korea. The track was premiered back in 2017 at the "2017 AOA 1st Concert 'Ace of Angels' in Seoul." "Hey" comes after the single "Hallelujah," which arrived in October 2017.

In November 2019, Shin Jimin participated in AOA's comeback with their sixth mini-album "New Moon." The album is their last release as a five-member group as Jimin left the following year and Yuna left in January 2021. Additionally, "New Moon" is the group's latest release.
AOA's "New Moon" contains five songs including the title track "Come See Me." In the first week, more than 7,900 copies were sold on the Hanteo Chart. In South Korea, over 15,000 copies were sold in 2019.
