VERIVERY Minchan Draws Backlash After Criticizing a Female Celebrity's Looks in Recent V Live

Recently on January 7, VERIVERY members Minchan, Hoyoung, and Kangmin went onto the popular streaming platform, V Live, to have a casual chat with their fans, VERRER.

During the live broadcast, however, Minchan drew attention for his comments when talking about his time in middle school, specifically when he talked about a female celebrity.

Minchan first started off by explaining that back in middle school, he had a classmate who was a celebrity and transferred to his school.

"During my third year of middle school, there was this celebrity who transferred to our school," Minchan said.

Hearing this, member Hoyoung asked if she is still a celebrity up to this day, to which Minchan says he isn't sure of.

Kangmin then brought up that the celebrity was a senior (sunbae), as she was already in the entertainment industry before VERIVERY made their debut.

Minchan continued to talk about the unnamed celebrity, saying, "I don't know but back then, if you write their group's name on Naver, they would pop out."

Although his recollection of his past about meeting a celebrity seemed innocent, it's his next words that didn't sit well with viewers.

Minchan went on to talk about how the group didn't actually have any songs or albums released, and also talked about the celebrity's looks.

Minchan Talks About Having a Celebrity Classmate

"But it not like that had an album or any songs out, they had a group name and she was one of the members of the group. So, I thought 'oh, she is a celebrity.' But... how can I say this... my fantasies were broken," Minchan started.

He continued, "For me back then, if you were a celebrity, that meant you were pretty and handsome, like someone from another world. But somehow she looked very familiar. Because we always see faces like ours, right? Our friends at school don't really wear makeup and whatnot, right? That friend didn't have any outstanding looks or anything so. I then thought, 'Oh, celebrities are human too.' But she was riding in a some white van car, so..."

At the end of his story, Minchan added that the group's name had four syllables and started with B. Hoyoung then joked that it was VERIVERY.

Hearing his words, netizens criticized the idol for commenting on someone's looks, a senior no less.

Some comments included, "That kid in the middle (Hoyoung) kept saying that she was his senior and was trying to snap him back in his right mind... he is kinda pitiful..,"

"Seeing the other two members being so frantic is even more pitiful," and "No but kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk if he goes by his standards, he wouldn't have made his debut either."

The V Live broadcast has since then been removed.
