SEVENTEEN member Mingyu and DIA member Chaeyeon are both born in 1997. They also debuted in the same year, 2015 - Mingyu in May, while Chaeyeon in September. Since then, they have both been active in the Korean entertainment industry.
Mingyu and Chaeyeon became closer when they were chosen to host the South Korean weekly music show "Inkigayo" which airs on SBS, together with actor Song Kang in February 2018. Whenever they appear on TV, netizens often say they look good together considering the difference in their height and closeness.

In February 2019, Mingyu and Chaeyeon became a topic on an online community after netizens saw an adorable interaction between the two through their Instagram posts.
At the time, DIA Chaeyeon and SEVENTEEN Mingyu made a post to celebrate their first anniversary as the host of SBS' "Inkigayo." Mingyu left a comment under Chaeyeon's post, and the female idol did the same thing. Netizens saw this and admired their continued friendship, visuals and amazing chemistry.
Another moment that had fans praising the friendship between Mingyu and Chaeyeon is the time when the latter was blocking the male idol's car.

Back in December 2018, the two celebrities were leaving the studio after completing "Inkigayo." Mingyu entered the car and was about to leave. However, DIA member Chaeyeon intentionally stood in front of the car to not let SEVENTEEN member Mingyu get out of the gate.
A video of this incident was uploaded to YouTube and several online communities and eventually became a point of discussion among netizens.
Because of their sweet interactions both on social media and in person, many fans and netizens question the relationship between Mingyu and Chaeyeon as they appear to be quite comfortable with one another.
As a response to the question whether SEVENTEEN Mingyu is dating Chaeyeon, the answer is no. According to the two, they are only friends and nothing more.
