Kep1er, the girl group formed from the Mnet survival show "Girls Planet 999," is one of the few K-pop groups that do not appoint official positions for the members right after their debut.
Kim Chaehyun was automatically named the group's center after finishing the show at number one. The other eight members were unknown for the longest time.

On November 14, Dispatch released their exclusive pictorial and interview with Kep1er. There, Dispatch, on behalf of Kep1er's management, confirmed the official positions of Kep1er.
According to Dispatch, the roles of the members are:
Kim Chaehyun: Center, main vocalist
Yujin & Mashiro, Co-leader
Kim Dayeon: Main dancer
Shen Xiaoting: Lead dancer
Yujin - Mashiro - Chaehyun - Xiaoting - Dayeon
Though Kep1er has nine members, only five were given official positions. This has caused many to wonder about the positions of the other four members - Huening Bahiyyih, Hikaru, Seo Youngeun, and Kang Yeseo, were. Many also wondered if the members who had positions were lacking other titles.

Why Kep1ians are Upset That Only 5 Members Have Official Positions
People claimed that it was unfair that certain members were not given official positions. Many believed members Hikaru and Seo Youngeun should have been given dance positions due to their dance skills. Kep1ians state that their dance skills are not inferior to Shen Xiaoting's and wonder why they were not given any dance positions.

Many were also unhappy that members were not given lead vocalists, sub-vocalists, main rappers, sub-rappers and visual positions. Only Shen Xiaoting was given a lead position, which has caused many to suspect that the female idol was being favored by their management and media outlets.

People were also confused with Kim Chaehyun's positions. The PD of "Girls Planet 999" and Dispatch has confirmed that she is the center, but many still believe Shen Xiaoting is the center.
This is because Shen Xiaoting is often put in the center of photoshoots and performances. This confused many, as Shen Xiaoting ranked 9th but appeared to be more favored than her other members.
