Stray Kids Beats (G)I-DLE on 'Music Bank'

In K-pop, two groups that were once considered controversial are promoting their songs. They are going head-to-head to win music show trophies.

(G)I-DLE was deemed controversial in 2021. Former member Soojin was accused of school violence and ultimately left the group.

On the other hand, Stray Kids was considered controversial when Hyunjin was accused of bullying but remains part of the group.

Despite their controversies, (G)I-DLE's "TOMBOY" is seeing success in South Korea, while Stray Kids' "MANIAC" is highly appreciated by international fans.

When talking about public love and overall success in South Korea, "TOMBOY" is the song that stands out. (G)I-DLE even achieved a Perfect All-Kill following the song's release.

Therefore, when Stray Kids beat (G)I-DLE for their win at "Music Bank" on March 25, people were shocked and confused.

Why Stray Kids' 'MANIAC' Win Over (G)I-DLE's 'TOMBOY' is Considered Controversial

Stray Kids won with a score of 10,596, while (G)I-DLE had a score of 8,112. Despite the relatively large gap in their scores, many were upset that (G)I-DLE did not win first place.

It was noted that they nearly had equal broadcast points, with Stray Kids garnering 4,755 and (G)I-DLE receiving 4,768. Additionally, "MANIAC" only achieved a digital streaming score of 90, while (G)I-DLE's digital streaming score was 2,518. This led people to state that more people listen to "TOMBOY" over "MANIAC," proving the former was more popular.

Additionally, Stray Kids did not appear on the charts, which has caused further confusion.

However, others pointed out Stray Kids' significant album sales points caused their win. Stray Kids' points in this category were 5,675, while (G)I-DLE's was only 796. This is most likely because "MANIAC" received strong support from international fans. As a result, the song is predicted to hit number one on the Billboard 200 chart, surpassing Lil Durk.

If that were to become true, Stray Kids would follow in the footsteps of BTS. Previously, BTS broke the record of having five number one hits on the Billboard 200 in a span of two years and six months. It made them the fastest group to do so in over 52 years.
