Originally born as Choi Yerim, the female idol debuted under an alias Choerry (pronounced as Cherry).
According to fans, it is a play on her real name, an amalgamation of her surname Choi (pronounced as "Choe") and the second syllable of her first name "Ri" (without the "m").
Outside LOONA's sub-unit to which a member carries a representative fruit, Choerry is the only one who's not part of the sub-unit who has her own representative fruit which is cherry.
Even though her stage name was as sweet as her personality and image, Choerry shares that she prefers to be called Yerim instead of her stage name.
However, she apparently needs a stage name to avoid confusion with Red Velvet Kim Yerim (Yeri) and actress Lee Yerim.

In 2017, she was officially introduced as the eighth member of LOONA. Ahead of joining the team, Choerry released her self-titled single album which established her entry into the K-pop scene as a soloist.
In the same year, it was revealed that Choerry will also join LOONA's second sub-unit called ODD EYE CIRCLE as its maknae.
In 2018, she made her debut stage as a member of the completed group LOONA through a mini-album, [+ +], along with the title track “Hi High”.
In 2019, Choerry started creating choreographies for the group's releases and was credited as a contributor to the choreography idea under the name Choi Dae Ri.

Although she is in the maknae-line of LOONA, Choerry is actually the eldest in her family among three daughters.
She was born into a comfortable living family, where her father runs a machine repair business while her mother works as a farmer in Bucheon, South Korea.
Prior to her debut, the idol is a child star who made an appearance in various shows such as "Happy Time, Fantastic Mates" in 2009.
Later on, she was cast by Polaris/Blockberry after joining a singing contest.
In regards to her educational background, she studied in Yeoweol during her elementary and middle school days. She then attended Dodang High School, but later on transferred to Chungshin Girls' High School where she graduated in January 2020.
