Members of SEVENTEEN are preparing fans for a temporary hiatus as the K-pop group moves closer to a full-group return expected in 2028.
The announcement came during the group's "Yakusoku" fan meetings in Japan, which began May 13 at Tokyo Dome. Additional shows are scheduled for May 14 in Tokyo and May 23-24 at Kyocera Dome in Osaka.
During the live-streamed event, leader S. Coups spoke openly about the group's future plans and confirmed that a break in activities is approaching.
"After this fanmeeting and caratland in Korea, we are going to have a hiatus period," S. Coups told fans. "This hiatus period will continue until the day we all come back."
His comments quickly spread online, with many fans believing the pause is connected to the remaining members' upcoming military enlistments. Several members, including Vernon, Mingyu, and Seungkwan, still need to complete their mandatory service before the group can reunite as a full 13-member team, Shining Awards reported

SEVENTEEN Fans React to Emotional Hiatus
Even while discussing the hiatus, S. Coups tried to reassure fans that the group would stay connected during the break. He promised to continue working hard so fans would not become "distracted" while waiting for their return.
According to Koreaboo, the emotional moment left many fans feeling both sad and hopeful. Social media quickly filled with reactions from fans sharing their support for the group's decision. One fan wrote, "Scoups always giving us the assurance. We will be waiting, SEVENTEEN.'"
Another fan admitted the announcement was difficult to hear but understandable. "'We are going to have a hiatus period.' Oh my heart genuinely sank a little, but at the same time, I know this was always something bound to happen because of the members' enlistment period."
The possible hiatus comes during a major milestone year for the group as they celebrate their 10th anniversary together. Over the years, SEVENTEEN has built a strong international fanbase through hit songs, energetic performances, and close teamwork between all 13 members.
