Why WJSN Can't Be as Popular as IVE, SISTAR? Here Are Responses
On July 4, K-pop fans opened a discussion on the online community Nate Pann, comparing the popularity of IVE and SISTAR.In particular, all three girl groups were launched by Starship Entertainment.
The first team created was SISTAR in 2010. During their "heydey," the quartet established their name as second-gen icons, notable for their songs such as "Touch My Body," "Alone," "SHAKE IT" and more.
Meanwhile, IVE who was introduced in 2021, also climbed their way as a "fourth-gen representative group." They have been dominating music charts with their hits, "ELEVEN" and "LOVE DIVE."

Unfortunately, WJSN, also known as Cosmic Girls, debuted in 2015 but failed to secure its spot as a top-tier third-gen girl group. Although they have decent popularity in Korea, they don't have a representative song that even non-K-pop fan knows, unlike the other two groups.
With this, the writer who started the discussion asked:
"Why WJSN can't hit big?"
As soon as the post was uploaded, it gained attention from over 60k internet users and gained hundred of mixed responses.
A lot of K-pop enthusiasts agreed that WJSN's popularity is not on par with SISTAR and IVE, highlighting three main reasons.
First, some netizens conveyed that the group, which initially comprised 13 members, is "so big."
"There are too many members. It makes me wonder if they were all needed."
"Because of the fact that WJSN is a huge group, there's nobody who really stands out."
Unlike SISTAR and IVE which only have four and six members, respectively, WJSN contained a lot of members. Commenters implied that this affects the overall popularity of the group.
The second point is their songs. Although WJSN has a lot of popular and bop tracks, they don't have a song that is considered a "hit" in the K-pop scene. Netizens explained:
"They have no hit songs like 'Alone.'"
"Most of their songs sound the same."
Third and last, WJSN didn't have a single member with established popularity or exposure before Bona's drama and Mnet's "Queendom 2." Netizens also highlighted the timing of WJSN's debut.
"Starship debuted a group with such a large number with not a single member who already has an established fandom."
"They don't have the "Produce" buff."
"They don't have (members like) Jang Wonyoung and Ahn Yujin."

WJSN Ready To Prove Status as 'Concept Master' With New Release 'LAST SEQUENCE'
Amid discussion about their popularity, WJSN continues to move forward and prove their presence as "Performance Queens" with an upcoming release.
On July 5, WJSN raised expectations for their comeback with "Sequence," a special single to be released in a year and four months after "UNNATURAL" dropped in March last year.
The girl group, who recently won the final title after joining Mnet's competition program "Queendom 2," are expected to solidify its position as "Performance Queen." They are also expected claim the title of "Summer Queen."
Meanwhile, the title song, "Last Sequence," is a pop-style dance song. The track inherits WJSN's colorful performance and overflowing passio. The wild baseline, drums, and synths make the melody stand out even more. In addition, the members' delicate and cool vocals clearly expressed the sense of the summer season.
It will be released on various online music sites at 6 p.m. KST on the 5th.
