Born and raised in Dongguan Guangdong, China, Xiao Dejun grew up with his parents and an older brother. Since he was young, he showed his passion for music, apparently because his father and brother worked in the same field.
In 2015, he embarked on his journey as a musician after joining the Chinese survival show, "X-Fire."
Xiaojun impressed viewers by showing off songs he composed and wrote himself.

After the show, Xiaojun joined SM Entertainment through the 2018 global audition. He was then introduced as a SMROOKIES, a pre-debut trainee group under the company.

He only trained for at most eight months, until Xiaojun was finally introduced as a member of NCT. In 2019, he debuted as the main vocalist of WayV, NCT's Chinese sub-unit.

After deciding to pursue his passion, Xiaojun attended school at the Shanghai Theatre Academy in the music department. He's not only talented when it comes to dancing and singing, but he can also play a lot of instruments. Some of them were ukelele, piano, drums and guitar.
In fact, he performed the guitar accompaniment when he covered Khalil Fong's "Red Bean" with co-member Kun for WayV's Rainbow V Project.
