BLACKPINK To Make Her Acting Debut in HBO's 'The Idol'

On August 19, YG Entertainment confirmed that BLACKPINK Jennie will make her appearance in the new American series, "The Idol," to be launched by HBO.

Prior to confirmation, Jennie surprised the entertainment scene after her appearance in the first teaser of the TV show.

According to initial reports, "The Idol" will be directed by "Euphoria" creator Sam Levinson and will be produced by pop artist The Weeknd.

The series circulates on all sorts of relationships surrounding rising pop idols and the Los Angeles music industry. The main story will then center on a self-help guru and leader of a modern-day cult and the complicated relationship with a rising pop star.

Alongside Jennie, top global artists will join her, including Lily-Rose Depp, Troye Sivan and more.

With Jennie's character still kept under wraps, attention is drawn to her first acting challenge. The soon-to-debut actress then expressed why she accepted the project, saying:

"As soon as I read the script, I immediately got attracted to it to the point where I wanted to be part of it. I'm really excited. I worked really hard so I hope that you will watch it with a warm perspective."

Although the airing date of the "The Idol" is yet to be disclosed, viewers' expectations, particularly BLINKs (BLACKPINK fandom), are already high.

In the second teaser, Jennie was introduced as "Jennie Ruby Jane," suggesting that it will be her screen name as an actress. The short clip also drew attention as it gave a sneak peek of what Jennie's role would be about.

Lily-Rose Depp, the main character, asked Jennie inside a sauna, saying:

"What was the name of the club?"

With a strange smile, Jennie drove with the former to the club and the next scene showed them both dancing to their hearts' content.

Speculations About Jennie's Role in 'The Idol'

Following the release of the teaser, fans and viewers are now sure that Jennie won't be doing a cameo only after her several appearances in different scenes in the two teasers.

Due to her antagonistic vibes in the new clip, fans claim that Jennie might play the role of a villain. But on top of these speculations, what captured the attention of everyone the most are the reports that Jennie will play a bisexual character.

 

Prior to the confirmation of the production of the drama, an American Fashion and culture magazine "Flaunt" stated that Jennie has a secondary role and will play the character of a bisexual girl.

There are also "sapphic" vibes in the teaser, strengthening the claims.

Nevertheless, these are all speculations only by fans and her distinct role is yet to be revealed.
