Following the release of BLACKPINK's much-awaited title track "Shut Down," some BLINKs expressed disappointment and compared it to the quartet's pre-release track, "Pink Venom."

BLACKPINK Releases 'Shut Down'

On September 16, BLACKPINK finally made their much-anticipated return to the music industry with their second full-length album, "BORN PINK."

Along with the studio album, the four-member group also introduced their title track, "Shut Down." The song released on various music platforms drew attention for its combined classical and trendy hip-hop sounds, referencing Paganini's classic piece, "La Campanella."

Incredibly, the song perfectly digests two genres in one song, particularly capturing listeners' attention for its sharp violin and a heavy hip-hop beat.

On YouTube, "Shut Down" MV also gained an overwhelming response, as it was initially hinted by YG Entertainment that the music video for the song has the largest production cost in the agency's history.

As of writing, the mv surpassed 8.5 million views, just an hour following its release.

BLACKPINK's 'Shut Down' Earns Mixed Reviews

As soon as the song was unveiled, most of BLINKs (BLACKPINK fandom) responded delightedly to "Shut Down," saying:

• "It perfectly suits my taste."
• "Isn't it the best BLACKPINK song ever?"
• "I got goosebumps from the beginning till the end."
• "As expected from BLACKPINK."
• "The MV is a homage. It's really crazy."

However, there are also listeners who honestly confessed it didn't capture their music taste and responded:

• "It's a little boring."
• "YG is getting tacky now."
• "I can't even focus on the song because of how bad the mix of the classical and hip-hop sound was."
• "I thought the classical reference will only be at the beginning, but it became repetitive throughout the song."

BLACKPINK 'Shut Down' vs 'Pink Venom': Which Is Better as Title Track?

Amid the mixed reactions due to its sound, the title track, "Shut Down" and the pre-release song, "Pink Venom" by BLACKPINK were also being compared by web users and music fans.

Several claimed that "Shut Down" is better as the title track, explaining:

• "The song is refreshing and good."
• "The MV is dope than 'Pink Venom.'"
• "What's wrong with your taste? This is literally BLACKPINK's best song."

Others; however, love "Pink Venom," and conveyed:

• "They did a different concept this time, 'Shut Down' just repeat concept, nothing new."
• "Pink Venom is way better. You call 'Shut Down' a title track?"

On the other hand, BLACKPINK will hold a world tour performance in Seoul for two days from the 15th to the 16th of October at the Olympic Park Gymnastics Stadium in Songpa-gu, Seoul.

The quartet will also visit North America, Europe, Asia and Oceania to meet about 1.5 million viewers until 2023.
